A quick online search didn’t turn up anything of any real import that occurred on May 29, 1974. It’s just another day in history. Today it’s just another day of the week, another day in the month of May, another day in the year 2013.

But in 1974, May 29th marked a special day in the lives of a couple people – my Mom and Dad. Their firstborn was born – a daughter whom they named Jill Elaine. (that would be me :D) She had blue eyes, lots of dark hair, weighed six pounds and was 19.5 inches long. Today she has green eyes, hair that is still dark due to monthly help from the hair dresser, weighs a bit more than six pounds and is 5 feet 3 inches tall. (and shrinking)

My oldest daughter was our only daughter for 4 and a half years before her little sister came along. When I had birthday parties for her I went all out – planning weeks and sometimes a couple months in advance. I loved getting all the details in place and creating a fun party. Daughter number 2 had a few parties with all the details and daughter number 3 had a couple – well, maybe one! Somehow my stamina for getting all those fun details together waned as I got busier and had more kids to take care of.

This past weekend I was privileged to help out a friend who was putting together a fun, detailed birthday party for her little 1 year old. My friend had all the details and crafty fun made, the decor items gathered, and she just wanted a bit of help getting it all set up. I was delighted to help out – and I took my camera so I could share!!

Cake Pops!

Cake pops are nothing new – they’ve been around blogland and pinterest for a while now. I’ve had them before and thought them seriously yummy every time. But I’d never made them. So in a way they ARE new to me – at least the making of them is 😀

On a recent trip to Jo-Ann Fabrics I happened to spot the Wilton’s Lollipop sticks and grabbed a bag to have on hand. Cause you can’t make cake pops without sticks. Well, you can, but then they would be cake balls not cake pops and if you want them to be real cake pops you must have the sticks. So I bought some sticks. Just in case I had a make-some-cake-pops moment.

My ‘Baby’ turns 7 today. SEVEN! I think that means she isn’t a baby anymore. When did this happen? I went from an exhausted, sleep-deprived Mom of toddlers and a baby, to an exhausted Mom of Teenagers and Pre-teens overnight. Time does not stand still.

Mom-of-the-Year Award a Bit Tarnished

My Best-Birthday-Mom-of-the-Year award has become a bit tarnished the past couple of years. The dust has settled in around it and the chances of another one ever joining it are looking rather slim. I used to plan such fun birthday parties for my girls. A theme was always picked and everything was detailed to the hilt, from the napkins to the cake.
