Fine Furniture’ as the title of this page may be just a little tongue-in-cheek, or even a little misleading. I know a lot of people consider ‘Fine’ furniture to be expensive wood stained and varnished to a high gloss. Not me. To me the ‘Finest’ Furniture are the pieces that have been given new life with a wonderful coat of paint. Add in a little distressing, some sanding, a great finish and you have some truly ‘Fine’ furniture. In my opinion. And since this is my blog that is the meaning of ‘Fine Furniture’ around here!
I have always liked to paint. In grade school I had an art teacher who provided us with oil paints and old cupboard doors, let us trace a picture on the door and then helped us paint with the oils. I loved it. And as a young teenager I amassed my own stash of oil paints, brushes and painting books and dabbled with oil paint art for awhile. When I was a newlywed I was soon stripping wallpaper and refreshing our home with painted walls and woodwork. As the years have passed I have also developed a love for painted furniture.
