My July installment of Sweet Tea fabric arrived a couple weeks ago and I wanted to hang it on the walls it was so lovely and fresh and fun. The yardages sat on my work table for a few days as I admired them and pondered the perfect project for them. I couldn’t decide. I dithered and waffled. Just how many different things can be made from fabric? I made pillows and a fun ruffled handbag with last months fabric. What to do this time?
I perused pinterest for inspiration but nothing was striking me as a ‘this-is-it’ project. At last I turned to my stash of patterns – things I’ve made before and accumulated over the past several years. From so long ago I wasn’t even sure I had it on the blog! I hadn’t been blogging long when I made a bird mobile for a shower gift. The pattern I used was in my stash and fueled my creative juices – this would be my next Sweet Tea creation.
The Birds on a Wire Mobile was born.
Sweet Tea is the name of the fabric line by Hoffman fabrics, and was designed by my friend and fellow blogger, KariAnne of Thistlewood Farms.
While these birds are sitting on a branch – the fact that they are all in a row makes me think birds on a wire every time I see them. Thus the birds on a wire mobile name.
You can read my review of Hoffman Fabrics, and my story of how I have had a love for Hoffman fabrics for years here.
You can see my very first bird mobile here. Please realize this post is from so long ago I had a hard time finding it – seriously who names their post about a bird mobile ‘finished’ and then has no verbiage in the post at all? (insert eye-roll) I’d been blogging for maybe 3 months and really had no idea what I was doing. I was totally a novice and a hobby blogger back then.
The site whereI found the free pattern back in 2008, is not around anymore. However the story of the bird pattern, where it originated, and how it went viral can be found here. The creator of the pattern has an etsy shop and you can see his creations here.
I added a few felt flowers to the branch after I added the birds. My friend Marcy makes my felt flowers for me.
Birds on a Wire mobile – perfect for a nursery or a craft room for decor.
The fishing line used to hang the Birds on a Wire Mobile makes it virtually disappear and look as though it’s floating.
Make sure to check out what my friends did with the Sweet Tea Fabrics this month too! You can find them here –
Have a wonderful day and go buy some fabric and create something fun!

*I was given the fabric to create whatever I wanted. All opinions on fabric are 100% my own.
