How I added Cozy Farmhouse to my Decor

It’s winter where I live and that means it’s cold.  If you happen to live in an area of the US that has warm weather in the winter then count yourself very blessed 🙂

I’m excited to tell you that I’ve joined up with a group of bloggers this year to bring you ‘Farmhouse Friday’ every 4th Friday of the month.  This month we are talking about ‘cozying up the farmhouse.’

These cold days and colder, long nights can be brutal – so what’s a girl to do to try to combat the cold and gloom? Come on in and see how I added cozy farmhouse to my decor, making it cheery and warm.

cozy farmhouse touches for winter

handmade pompom garland over a vintage mirror

I made this fun pom-pom garland – what better than yarn to create warm cozy decor!
vintage deer with plaid tie and gold crownMy little vintage deer is still sporting his plaid tie from fall.  The red in it worked for Christmas and it works now for Valentines and winter 🙂handmade pompom garland

This vintage white mirror set against the old, chippy barn door and draped with the pom-pom garland is simple but I am loving it.  When I pulled out the mirror and propped it on the shelf my teenager said ‘Oh yeah, Mom, that looks great – very bloggish.’  😀 😀 😀  Meaning it looks like the kind of decor you would see a blogger do I guess!fur throw and a stack of books

My sheepskin from IKEA is a fun accent to pull out for winter.  It looks so cozy and warm.  I’ve tossed it across our coffee table here and added a stack of home decor books and a few miniature toy tea bags.  These work great as bookmarks too.handmade heart pillows for valentines

On the couch I added a couple of pillows from my Valentine’s line.  I am so in love with these pillows I may have to keep them instead of taking them to the store!  Scraps of vintage fabrics, some wool and a bit of leather lend a touch of coziness for wintertime.
faux deer head and a quiver full of arrows

My faux deer head kept his scarf and his crown from Christmas and the message on the chalkboard got changed up from ‘Merry Christmas’ to ‘I {heart} u’.  The basket quiver full of arrows is a fun touch of whimsy for Valentines too.  And baskets always add a warm texture to any room.velvet pumpkins and heart shaped toy tea bags

Velvet pumpkins.  I’ve admired them for awhile now.  These two showed up in one of my Christmas packages from my Sister!  I just couldn’t pack them away and wait to use them in the fall so I added them to this side table in the living room and tucked another toy tea bag around one of them.love wall art made of junk

My Wall art made out of Junk found a spot on an old chair in the corner.  An old quilt under it speaks of wintertime and promotes a cozy feeling!

old window layered over an old door and a farmhouse pillow create a cozy nook

This is MY corner.  I sit in this chair every morning with my coffee and every evening with my computer.  That plaid throw is actually a blanket scarf and it has buttons on it so you can wear it like a shawl.  I wear it often when I sit in this chair and it keeps  me warm and cozy.  That it looks cute tossed across the arm of the chair is an added bonus 🙂old window layered over an old door and a farmhouse pillow create a cozy nook

I rather like my farmhouse pillow in red – it goes great for Christmas and right on through winter.  Besides I’ve always liked red as an accent color.Red pompoms toy tea bags and a red plaid cooler create a cozy feel

In my dining room nook I added a french runner to the table and some red pom-poms tucked into the crowns.  Rope knots, wood feathers, and a red checked toy tea bag for a bit of Valentine fun.  The red plaid cooler under the table was a Christmas gift.old gate used as wall art and decked out with a paper flower garland

More pom-poms piled under a cloche and tucked into a trophy cup.  And one more toy tea bag tucked around the trophy cup.  Ribbon candy in a glass dish, a handmade garland and a map note tucked into the old gate and I like the way this vignette in my dining room looks.  It makes me smile.

The garland is made from a finger knit strand and handmade paper flowers made by my sister.  The map notecard was from my sister too and I like how it looks tucked in here.

ribbon candy makes great valentines decor

Tip:  I bought the ribbon candy on sale after Christmas and pulled the red, white, and pink pieces for Valentines.

China hutch filled with white ironstone and clock faces and still sporting the bay wreaths

Across the dining room in my china cupboard I’ve piled lots of white.  White ironstone platters and dishes and white clock faces.  A few white rope knots and a white letter ‘T’.  White definitely proclaims ‘Farmhouse’!  While my house isn’t technically a farmhouse because it is located in town instead of on a farm it is built in the style of a farmhouse.  🙂  I left the bay wreaths – they dry beautifully and I think bay is a great greenery to spend money on at Christmastime because it can work clear through Easter – or all year long if you want!  I had some bay from a year ago that I finally threw away when I got fresh for this Christmas.farmhouse touches for a cozy kitchen

More white in the kitchen.  More of the dried bay was left here too, in a large white pitcher on top of the refrigerator.handmade pompom garland and handmade pillows

I also add a couple white fur blankets over the backs of the wingback chairs.  The cowhide rug always feels cozy in the winter too.  Stay warm and cozy wherever you are my friends!
