Autumn leaves, sticks from the yard, a waning succulent, a few sprigs from a berry bush. A vintage bedspring vase. Filled to the brim with Autumn’s Offerings.
I love bringing outdoor elements into my home for decor. It makes for a quick, easy, and cheap refresh of my home and adds seasonal decor without breaking the bank.
This month the Junk Visionaries blog group category was ‘using outdoor elements’. Just my style 🙂
Remember my vases I made with the old bed springs that I cut out of old mattresses from my Grandma’s house? If you missed it you can see them here.
I used the bedspring vase without the test tubes this time and gathered a few items from around our yard. My almost 10-year-old helped me. She found the prettiest leaves and showed me where we had bushes that still had berries on them. Can you tell she’s the one who plays outside while Mom works inside? 😀 I didn’t even realize we HAD bushes that had berries on them.
First I added a few sticks I found lying in the flower bed. I think they were leftovers that were too short for the twig display I made for the living room a few weeks ago.
Next I tucked in a sprig from the berry bush.
And then another sprig or two till I liked how it looked.
To the base of the spring I added a handful of leaves and a succulent plucked from my planter on our barn.
…just a few more leaves tucked in with the berry bush sprigs and the bedspring vase arrangement is finished. Time to take it in the house and create a vignette to go with it.
I love the natural elements brought inside.
I was also prepping my home for the Fall Home Tour and convinced my hubby to cut me some cedar wood slices from the log we’ve had lying on our fence line for years. I love the look these wood pieces add!
The plant is an ornamental cabbage. I bought it the same place I bought my pumpkins that I used in my Fall Home Tour.
An antler my brother found for me while he was farming and the old seltzer bottles my sister gave me, rounded out this vignette quite nicely. I love it and every time I look at it I smile. that means it was a success 🙂
I am so glad our dining room has this bump-out we call the nook. The windows let in so much light and it makes the room seem so much bigger to have that space.
And here is an image that has each step in it – for your pinning pleasure! Pin this image and you will forever have the how-to on your pinterest board!
And now hop on over and see what my friends came up with and how they used natural elements to create some cool things!

I love it Jill! I would never have thought to use an old bed spring this way. You’re so cleaver. I’m on my way over to check out your home tour now!
Thanks so much Carrie! I saw the idea on pinterest and decided to do it myself!
Very cute Jill…love it…pinned!
Thanks for pinning Tammy!
Jill I am in awe how creative you are. How many people can take a mattress spring and different forms of plants from nature and create a gorgeous arrangement. Lovely! I have to let you know that I am inspired!
Awww, thanks Thea. It was really a fun arrangement to do!
So creative Jill. I love the whole vignette but that spring vase is awesome. Love it. Cathy
Thanks Cathy, I have several of these vases and am thinking about doing a row of them down the center of my dining room table for a Christmas display.
Awe shucks Jill, so durned purty, and so inventive. If those berries are what I think they are, be careful. Could be completely wrong but they might be pyracantha berries. Sure look like it. They can make people/animals sick so be careful in case they are pyracantha’s ok? Don’t let kitties or dog nibble on them. They look very appetizing but not if they make you sick. Sure are pretty tho aren’t they?
I got some crab apples from a tree in Smith’s Grove,KY one time, not what I thought they’d be but were great for arrangements. Lucky you getting bedsprings, not something to be seen here. Your arrangement is so clever, pretty and smart, using what you had in yard, how nice to have helper. Happy weeks dear friend
Yes, I’m sure the berries are not anything anyone should eat – we just use them for ‘pretty’ 🙂
Love it Jill! So natural looking and still makes such a big impact on your table. 🙂 Pinned and shared.
Thanks Stephanie 🙂 It was a fun display to put together!
