Today I have a (affiliate link)book review for you. A book called Hand Me Down Husband. It took me a bit longer to get this up than I meant for it to – I pre-ordered the book and read it as soon as it arrived in my mailbox. But then I loaned it out before I took pics of it. So I’m just now getting to it.
I was super excited about this book – you see I KNOW the author! Like, I KNOW her IN REAL LIFE! How cool is that? I was with her and her sisters when I was a teenager, in fact, I was in her youngest sister’s wedding.
I love a good romance novel. Always have, probably always will. I’ve dreamed of writing one myself since I started reading them – I think my first romance novel was Janette Oke’s ‘Love Comes Softly’. I was 10 or 12 I think. I’ve been a romance fan ever since 🙂
So when I found out Rosanna Huffman had a romance novel being published I was thrilled. Someone I knew in real life had accomplished something so thrilling! I pre-ordered the book so I would get it as soon as it was available.
I like the books I read to snag my attention from the first page and make me want to keep reading till the end – but also to keep me entertained and engaged through every word. Not skimming to get to the end to find out the climax of the story. And this one did not disappoint. It is good. Relaxing, entertaining, engaging reading.
I don’t have the luxury of hours on end of reading time anymore so it took a couple days to get through this one instead of reading it in one sitting like I used to read books. It was fun to have it waiting on me – beckoning me to come read a bit more.
And I’ll admit I took some time out of my busy schedule one day and just sat and read the last 1/3 of the book. Good stuff this romance!
The setting is Ohio – right here in the Miami Valley where I live. Places like Sinclair College and Miami Valley Hospital being mentioned made me smile. The romance is between a widowed man and a school teacher. The school is a Christian school and I could tell that it was patterned after the church school I went to. The school teacher doesn’t much like hand-me-downs, clothes or husbands or otherwise! The widower takes a job as principal at the school where she teaches. The two become friends. The everyday happenings and the friendship they build is fun to read and made me laugh in several places. Love it when books make me chuckle out loud 😀
It’s SUCH a thrill to see the name of someone I know on the front of a book. Seriously. This kind of book has always been my fav – I used to have stacks of them. (Actually I still have stacks of them I just can’t part with) (they are in storage and someday I hope to have a very large bookshelf to store them on)
I recommend this book highly – and I’m not just saying that because I know the author – I really loved the book. In fact I may just read it again now that I have it back. (I offered to do this review after I started reading it – I’ve not been compensated to do this) (even if I HAD been compensated my opinions are always 100% my own 😀 )

I don’t think I’ve read this book. I used to read Harlequin’s books sometimes but I haven’t read a “romance” book in years. I guess I’m too old for it. 🙂 Now-a-days I only read the Bible and spiritual books. I also love American History, specifically, the Civil War. I don’t care about the battles but I do enjoy reading the diaries of those who lived during this period. I have many, many diaries & sometimes you run into a romantic story or two. Starting today, Appomattox, VA is celebrating the 150th anniversary celebration of the end of the war in 1865. The event runs today thru Sunday & it looks interesting. It’s about 1 hr. & 15 minutes from here so my husband & I are probably going on Saturday. My daughter just lives a few miles from Appomattox. If you like history & antiques this is a good place to go.
Thanks for this review, Jill. It sounds like a book I would really enjoy.
Thank you for your kind words, Jill. So glad you enjoyed the book, and I really appreciate you taking the time to write and post this review. Now,I must be off to write the next book. Happy sewing!
I always enjoy reading a book that doesn’t involve constant cuss words and blatant sex. I like to read a story about people in their lives. How absolutely exciting to know the author personally and have book centered in area you live.
When I read the Smoke Jumpers it’s centered in Missoula, MT and areas around so I was glued to it, have read book at least 4-5 times. It’s good book and think I need to route it out to read again. I often read books again I really enjoy.
I’ll put this book on my list to read, glad you shared about it.
Happy rest of week and weekend Jill. Look forward to finding this book and reading it.
I enjoyed reading this book too, and am so happy for Rosanna! I requested for our library to get the book, so it is available for our community! There are definitely real life feelings in the story I could relate to.
I like your photos of the book.
