Our bathroom is getting a makeover.
It’s high time. I cannot believe how fast walls need repainted and repairs need made. We installed the bathroom in the main floor in our home several years ago. From bare studs, gutted walls, we added insulation, framed in a wall between the new bathroom and laundry area, basically built a new bathroom from the ground up. From the floor up anyway.
And now it’s time for some repairs and updates already.
When someone tells you that what you build today you will rebuild all over again in 30 years or less, believe them! When you own a home the work on it is never ending.
Anyway, today I’m sharing my Industrial light update. I am really really liking it!
I never really liked this light when we put it in. We found it on sale at Lowe’s and bought two of them way before we had things to the point of putting in lights. (Back before I really even knew what my ‘style’ was)
When we finally got to the bathroom renovations we changed our design and only needed one light. I wanted a different one but my husband thought that was ridiculous since we had two like this just sitting there. So it was installed.
Now there is nothing wrong with this light. It does the job it was created to do. I puts out plenty of light and it isn’t ugly or anything. It just didn’t have any WoW factor going for me. But my husband was right, it was here, it worked great, and there was no need to spend money on a new light just because I didn’t especially LIKE this one anymore.
Men can be so practical sometimes. (insert eye-roll)
When Hawk Media contacted me about working with Build.com the wheels started turning. My first thought was “I’ve been wanting a chandelier in my kitchen!” But then I remembered that I couldn’t very easily add a chandelier because there is no light switch in my kitchen – therefore any light I use in there has to have a pull chain so we can turn it off and on.
Turning the light off and on IS a pretty important requirement.
My next thought was of this bathroom light. I really wanted to replace it. Here was my chance!
It didn’t take too much persuasion to get my hubby to agree to change out the light and he even sat down with me and looked at all the lights I liked at Build.com and helped pick one out.
I’m pretty excited about what we chose.
Industrial, heavy-duty, and just fits my style.
I was very happy with the ease of shopping on Build.com website too.
I was able to hover over lighting, then click ‘Bathroom Lighting‘ and from there I could customize however I wanted. I chose to search ‘Industrial‘ in style and found my light that way. Shipping was fast too and that’s a huge plus to me!
This light is HEAVY, but my hubby had no problem installing it. He was quite impressed with the quality of the light, and if you know him at all you know that if he is impressed it has to be pretty great!
The base is pretty small, but there was a cool little tool included that made it easy to get the hardware all attached tightly. The glass globes are well attached and not in danger of crashing down.
The mirror we had here before is too tall now with the lower hanging light, so it has been removed and a new one is coming. My husband made a new frame from a mirror I found in my Grandma’s house. It is the perfect size and hopefully will soon be hanging here!
The walls are in the process of getting a new coat of paint. Every time I get ready to repaint walls my husband decides there is drywall repair that needs done. And it takes FOREVER! It’s never done! Always ‘one more coat of thin-coat to put on’ or ‘one more sanding’. I’m getting a bit impatient with him because I want to show you the AFTER pics! They beauty shots! We are switching all our light bulbs over to LEDs. They are much easier on the electric bill and I’m finding I love the light from them much better than other lighting. It does much better for indoor photos when you don’t have enough natural light coming in. Or for those evening birthday parties when you are snapping pics of everything going on 🙂
Build.com has some amazing lights – for any room in your home. My Mom purchased one for her kitchen to complete her kitchen renovation. The after pics of that project will be coming soon and I will be sharing that light as well!
What do you think? Like my industrial upgrade for my bathroom light?

well I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the final result. industrial light in the bathroom did not sound too appealing. I guess I was imagining something huge and cumbersome with fluorescent bulbs. great looking choice. how nice that you will be able to have your grandmothers mirror in there. what a gift.
Thanks Brenda! All depends on your idea of industrial I guess 😉
I am loving it!!! It looks like the old electric glass insulators.
Thanks Sandy! And yes, that’s exactly what it looks like!
That is a really cool light! Not something I would have picked out for myself but now that I see it in your bathroom, I definitely would love it in mine! And definitely an upgrade from the old one!! One small detail can make a big difference!
I can’t wait to share the whole room once the drywall repairs and painting are all finished. I am hoping to get a new shower curtain made soon too.
I really like your new light fixture!
I am looking forward to seeing the space finished.
Thank you Kellie! I love it!
I am really loving that light for your bathroom, awesome and so pretty. The hammered finish is quite nice. My first impression was insulators. So happy for you to get your bathroom snazzied up. That always feels good to us ladies of the household huh? Men just don’t get that. I’d love for hubs to put new counter top in our bathroom, really don’t like one in there. We have a counter top out in shed hubs wanted to put in but at time I didn’t like it. Now I’d love it. Going to dig out an old dresser first to rehab, see if we can’t use it, then put counter top on it. See what happens, know hubs is going to say dresser won’t work but he doesn’t have my vision, he’s quite cranky these days. Being limited in what he can eat is really cramping his style, lol.(and especially his disposition).
Hope Spring decides to visit your hunk of Ohio real soon. Take care ok dear friend. Happy daze
Thanks JaneEllen!
