16 years ago today I was lying in a hospital bed, contentedly holding and gazing at my tiny, new daughter. Miss Emma Kate graced us with her appearance after putting her mother through more than 27 hours of labor. Funny how a mama completely forgets how exhausted she is and the pain she’s just been through when that baby is placed on her chest and those tiny eyes search out mama’s eyes and the cries calm just from mama’s presence.
This girl. She’s sweet and funny and kind and loving. And full of all the drama teenagers are known for! She’s made us laugh and cry and pull our hair out. She’s kept life interesting and taught us that we didn’t have it all figured out!
Emma is 16 today. SHE has it all figured out – parents are SO dumb these days! She’s got youth on her side. She can do whatever she puts her mind to. She’s a great babysitter and can be the best big sister – when she wants to be!
She plays with her sisters, fights with her sisters, rolls her eyes at how dumb they are! And insists that she was NEVER like they are! She was never annoying. She never made messes. (Like her room is always SO clean and neat 😀 )
Emma likes music – it’s her passion right now. She takes voice lessons and this mama thinks she’s pretty good. She also likes to draw and lately spends quite a bit of time doing that. She doesn’t like school work so much – she thinks math is pointless – why would she ever need to know algebra and geometry? She’s good at English and loves to read. She’s actually good at math if she will just get at it and do it. She loves to read and reads a lot. She’s well equipped to learn anything she wants to learn and become anything she sets her mind to.
She has life figured out right now – as most of us did as teenagers. Someday she may have her own tiny, new daughter who shows her just how much she didn’t have figured out!
I’d say at sweet 16, Emma Kate is a pretty typical teenage girl – quirky, moody, and dramatic 🙂 We love her lots and pray God blesses her and guides her through life.
Happy Sweet 16 Emma Kate!
So glad God blessed us with Emma! I CAN NOT believe 16 happened so fast!
I agree – we are so blessed to have Emma. And how it’s been 16 years already I have no idea. Wow but time does fly.
