A LOVE-ly Living Room

Our living room gets lived in.  Our house isn’t all that big so there aren’t a lot of options when it comes to where to hang out and do stuff.  Our living room is where the tv is, where the girls spread out all their drawing stuff, where school work gets done, relaxing happens (on occasion), it’s where I blog, and the list goes on.  It really is a true living room.

The past week it’s been a LOVE-ly living room – meaning it’s got a bit of Valentine’s decor blinging it out a bit.  I shared my Project from the Monthly Project Challenge I’m doing this year, and how the project found its way into our living room decor.

Valentines decor in a living room that gets LIVED in!

For the beauty shots of the project I just styled the center of the shelf.  Like I had done right after I put the Christmas decor away – just a simple, minimalistic, center-of-the-shelf bit of decor.  But I’m not a minimalist at heart.  It was time to add some decor back to fill the whole shelf.Valentines decor (27 of 35)

My vintage santos reproduction needed a home so I started with her and added the frames back in that I use a lot.  They work very well at pulling together the decor when filling a 12ft. shelf and making it look right.  The monkey’s fist rope knots I’ve had for a few years now and I love to work them into my decor somehow.  You can see the first way I ever used them here.Valentines decor (10 of 35)

The vintage ferris wheel found it’s spot in the center usupred by the heart art piece but managed to stay on the shelf, just a bit left of center. Valentines decor - living room

I like the combination of decor going on here.  And I love having a chandileir to look at instead of the old ceiling fan.Valentines decor (28 of 35)

My pillow is one of the designs I carry in my shop – have you seen my shop?  You really should go over and visit 😀  I’ll be adding more stuff thoughout the year too!Valentines decor (11 of 35)

This little vignette makes me happy.  Salt dough hearts I made last year, and the pink felt heart my youngest daughter made for me last year.

My cozy little corner.  I sit here almost every morning with my coffee, Bible, iPhone, and computer.  Most blog posts get written here.  I hug my ‘babies’ here when they straggle their way out of bed in the mornings.  I text my teenager from here to get her attention 😀Valentines decor (33 of 35)

This is an angle I don’t shoot very often.  We don’t use the stove anymore (it’s a corn burner and corn price went up and we put in a furnace that keeps the house much warmer) and I would like to see this piece removed so I could use the space for something else.

Our cowhide rug – everyone in this family loves this rug.  It’s soft and beautiful, and fun.
Toy Tea Bags for pretend tea parties

Heart tea bags not only make a fun toy for little girls to play tea party with, they make a great little Valentine’s Decor addition to a coffee table vignette.Valentines decor (12 of 35)

I’ve had this little cupid basket for several years now.  It always manages to find a spot for at least a couple weeks over Valentines.Valentines decor (31 of 35)

I’m still loving the twinkle lights in my cupboard.  My hubby has asked a couple times since Christmas if it’s time to take them down.  I still say ‘NO’.  When the days get longer – maybe after the time changes again – I’ll put them away till November.

And that’s my LOVE-ly living room.  I cleaned it up and swept and fluffed last weekend to get all these shots.  It stayed pretty much this way till Tuesday night when my girls got home from Kansas.  The past couple days there have been legos and markers and colored pencils and paper and tissues and gatorade bottles adorning the coffee table, floor, and couch.  My 9-year-old is on the mend, and spent most of yesterday on the couch, but sitting up playing with legos.  Hopefully today the Gatorade can be off limits to the living room again.  And maybe she will be well enough to do school work – and clean up a few things in the living room that is looking very much lived in!

 Happy Weekend!

Jill

Glad your daughter is home and better. Love the fact that your living room is too a living room. Ours is an office, craft room, work room, etc. etc. I guess its because the t.v. is there, who knows? I haven’t decorated for Valentines Day since Easter is so early this year. Hopefully, I’ll decorate for that!!!

Thanks Donna! I haven’t even looked at the Calender to see when Easter is! I have a few things I get out for that for decor but usually just spring-y stuff and it’s a great reason to get some fresh flowers!

Very happy your daughter is better. They can really scare us can’t they? I copied your salt dough recipe. I read to two grades each week and I am making things for their presents next week – some sweets and something to keep. Your recipe will make the hearts they can keep from me. Thanks for your help.

So glad your daughter is on the mend. We had a scare last weekend with a trip to the ER with my youngest grandson. But they found the problem, gave him meds and he was on Gatorade for awhile too.
I love the things you did on your shelf. I loved your use of empty frames and the window beside your cozy place. It’s funny your husband wants to remove your lights. I think they look great. I’m going to suggest that to my daughter who has a similar cabinet but very dark. I think the lights would look great.

Thanks Nancy, and I’m glad your grandson is doing well now too. I think my hubby just thinks the lights on is electric we don’t need to be paying for. But I think they make the long dark days and evenings more bearable in the winter so I leave them – and he doesn’t really complain 🙂

Glad your little one is feeling better. I’ve been praying for her. I love the cupboard where your lights are & the little horse. Is that a drawer on the side of the table? I’ve seen some of them in the antique stores. I also like the round tables that are open around the sides to keep books & other items. They were used a lot in the 40’s. I like the lights, too, especially this time of the year.

Hi Tricia, yes, the little round table has a drawer in it. It’s a really fun size and shape for our room. And the lights will be staying for a couple more months 🙂

Finally got online again, durned stomach bug or something? Nothing seems to agree with me but Liptons’ small noodle soup. Was one sick puppy for few days. Couldn’t seem to shake it, still nauseous and dizzy. Hate that, have things I want to be doing. Am about ready to throw this computer and printer out and put old one back. Don’t know why they had to make it so blasted hard. Gal that fixed viruses says I’m not alone, many people having problem with it.
Your living room looks so very nice Jill. Would hate for you to see our now, trying to get it cleaned up but then I get to feeling lousy again, have to lie down. grrrr.
I really love how your long shelf looks, you have neat stuff on it but it’s not cluttered, looks very nice. Glad to hear your youngest is on the mend, poor kid and Mom. Atta girl, keep your twinkle lights on for little while longer, they’re so cheerful especially in winter. Take care and try to stay warm and healthy. How do you doing with your weight on that plan? Hope well.
    Happy weekend

ugh. So sorry you’ve been sick 🙁 Hopefully you are over it for good by now. And I’m so sorry about the computer problems – windows 8 is a pain. Not sure what to do cause we need another laptop for the girls. Guess if we get one for the teenager she can probably figure it out! LOL! My living room looked great for a few days – then the girls came home 🙂 They now have their drawing stuff and legos all over my living room! But I’m so glad they are home!
I love my eating plan – i’ve not lost much since Christmas but i’m losing inches and managing to get along ok in the cold weather ok so I’m happy!
