Today I’m bringing you a fun project for Valentines! It’s really easy and quick to do and the little girls in your life will love it. DIY Valentine Toy Tea Bags
You will need:
Fabric of your choice – scraps work well for this project.
Thread
Twine, yarn, or ribbon
Just a bit of quilt batting for padding
Scissors
Staples (optional)
Paper, Pencil, and a Tea Bag for making your pattern.
Fold your paper in half and draw 2 heart halves on the fold of the paper. Use your tea bag as a guide for the sizes of the hearts. One heart will be approximately the size of the tea bag and the second will be smaller to mimic the size of the paper holder on the string to the tea bag.
Cut along the lines you have drawn and unfold each heart.
From your fabric, cut out 2 hearts of each size for one tea bag.
With right sides out on both pieces of the large heart, place a small amount of batting between the 2 layers of fabric. The smaller heart doesn’t need any batting, just lay both pieces together, right sides out.
Tuck a bit of twine, ribbon, or yarn into each heart, connecting them like a tea bag.
Stitch both hearts together making sure to catch the twine in each one.
If desired, use a decorative staple on each heart to mimic the staples on a real tea bag. This is optional, and if you are making these for a very young child, not recommended.
Make several and give to the little girls in your life for some fun Valentine’s play!
Set a table with china cups, add some tiny treats, and let them play the afternoon away! Watch their happy faces as they pretend to be grown up ladies – just like you!
My girls are too big now to want to play with toy tea bags. They do enjoy setting up a ‘tea party’ with snacks and hot chocolate! If you have little girls, make some time to make a few of these for them – those little girls won’t be little for very long! Happy Crafting!
Your little tea bag covers are so adorable. How fun for little ones to play with those. Would be pretty to set up table so you could show them off. What an adorable idea. Mom’s with little girls, enjoy.
Boy they sure don’t stay little for long. when we came here our granddaughters were 3 1/2 and 6. Now they’re 14 almost 15 and 17, soon to be 18. Where did my little sweeties go? Delainey is finding colleges, she’s gotten offers of 2 full ride scholarships. One in northern CA and one in Oregon. Will miss her so much and think Mom and little sister will too. She bought herself a new laptop with skype so we can at least talk to each other and see one another when she’s gone. Sure hope we can keep in touch. Wish we had lots of money so we could help her out and give her money for her trip and living. She understands we’re not rich or even sorta well off so it’s ok I guess. We’re only grandparents the girls have.
I sent money for both grandsons in KY for Christmas. Their birthdays are 1/30 and 2/1 so hope I can find few bucks to send them for their b/d/s. Trevor is having great time at college (per his Dad) and loving all he’s learning. Take good care of yourself dear friend. Happy New Year
Thanks JaneEllen! I’m sure you could make these – maybe even sell them at your next craft sale!
I used to organize tea parties with my friends too. I wish I would knew about these sooner..they’re so pretty 🙂
These are fun aren’t they Karla? Maybe you can make some for some little girls sometiem 🙂
The tea bag is adorable! Your instructions for making it are great, too. I’d love it if you would care to share this on our Spring Craft Blog Hop.
