Today I want to share a bit of an updated house tour with you. It is also available as a button in my sidebar now too. I need to update some of the rooms again but here it is for now. It’s rather fun for me to pull all this together and see where we are now, what we’ve updated, and what we still need to finish.
Our front door was painted with Front Door Paint just this summer. I really like the traditional black with the white house.
Our front door opens into our dining room Old houses are so interesting the way they are arranged. I’d never build a house with the front door opening directly into a room. A foyer or at least a small entry area would be so nice.
I love the little bump-out that we fondly call the ‘nook’. It lets in an amazing amount of light and I use this room the most for photo shoots. It also makes the room seem a lot bigger and it’s a great place to stack finished projects when I’m getting ready for an event.
This room was shot in late spring when the wheat grass and pussy willows were in their prime.
Our dining room table and benches were made by my Dad when he and my Mom were first married. I’m so blessed to have them now!
Opposite the front door are two doorways into the kitchen and my work room. The red lockers were from a local school and hold the girls school books. They saved my sanity when it came to the abundance of books and papers homeschooling involves! I was so thankful to get something I could close the doors and hide it all away!
Beside the stairs and across from the dining room nook is my china cupboard. I want to paint it white. Don’t judge.
Vignette inside china cupboard.
One more shot of the nook because it is my fav. The ruffle on the curtains is a no-sew project I whipped out just before photographing the room.
Beside the front door that opens into the dining room is the doorway into our living room.
This little corner is where I find myself when I have my morning coffee, when I blog, and often when I just want to relax a bit. Or read a book.
My couch, this chair, and the ottoman are all wearing slipcovers and yes, the white works out very well. The wing back chairs are going to have slipcovers custom made for them too – if I can ever find the time to get it done.
Across the room from the couch and beside the doorway is our piano which doubles as a tv stand 😀
A couple older photos from before we found the wingbacks – these show off my window treatments! Vintage shutters, altered to become functioning indoor window treatments – or mistreatments if you prefer to call them that!
We love being able to swing the shutters closed when we want to.
My kitchen – these photos are OLD! I’ve painted a few things – the huge black cupboard is now white as are the red doors you see on the right beyond the big black cupboard. The grey spice cupboard on the wall is now white too.
Beside the big cupboard is an old metal cart I bought at a school auction years ago. It’s a cool old aqua color and I love it as my microwave cart and coffee station.
More cupboards that need painted white. And I still need a real counter here but this piece of wood has been doing the job very well 😀
An old bookshelf turned open shelving in the kitchen. When space is limited you use any means possible for storage and organization in the kitchen!
Late winter 2014 I bought some succulents for my kitchen window sill. They made me happy every time I looked at them.
My work room now boasts two of these old tv armoires. I painted this one with Milk paint and it’s full of fabric. And I wish I could say the space around the cupboard still looks this clean and empty. Time to organize again 😀
Here is where I sew. The serger has been relegated to the dusty depths of the space under the desk and I’ve been using a wonderful new one that my Mom so graciously loaned me. I really need to upgrade my serger – this thing has stitched more seams than any serger should be asked to!
Our downstairs bathroom is almost impossible to take good photos of. There is no natural light and it’s a tight space for photographing. It’s a nice size for a bathroom but not for photographing!
I did this post a couple years ago to share about my copper sink.
Our upstairs bathroom we completely gutted and replaced it all. The toilet remained in the same spot but everything else moved around. There used to be a tub shower, a tiny sink with cabinet under it, and an odd space we put shelving for storage. When we tore it all out we put in a shower stall (it’s behind the curtain) added a pedestal sink, put bead-board on the walls, and marble tile on the floor. I still love it!
I bought an old cupboard with a screen door at the Country Living Fair years and years ago – back before I knew what a blog was! I painted it to match the red in the curtain I hung to hide the shower. This was long before I’d discovered cool paint like chalk paint, milk paint, and Paint Couture! It’s just plain ole latex paint.
Our bedroom. This was a couple years ago at least. Our room is rather a catch all for all the stuff no one knows what to do with. It is in dire need of a complete makeover.
Larke and Becca’s room is the most recently finished room. We tore out the carpet and added hardwood flooring. I stenciled the walls with a fun design. The bed is and antique bed that was my husbands and I painted it with milk paint.
The duvet cover is from IKEA. Orange lace ruffled pillow was made by my teenager.
My middle girl and I found her end table at Hobby Lobby.
Storage system from IKEA, locker from a school sale. The roman shade was stenciled to match the wall.
A bit of bling for the closet doors. (side note – why does spell check not recognize ‘bling’ as a word?? Seriously, that one needs to be added to the dictionary)
And this is the Teenager’s room – only she wasn’t a Teenager yet when this was taken. This was clear back in 2011, right after we finally got this room finished. This was a complete gut and redo also. The curtains to the right hide her closet – the closet we added by building it into the room. This room has changed a LOT in the 3+ years since we finished it and moved her in. I need to help her clean it up and fluff for a photo shoot – but I shudder to think of it. If you have a teenager you totally understand. If you don’t have a teenager – ignorance is bliss!
The trees and birds came from an Etsy shop. Emma is getting tired of them now over 3 years later.
And that’s it for now! You’ve peeked into all the rooms in our house except the laundry room. It is very much still in the process of remodel. I don’t photograph it. I would love for that project to get finished this winter. I have a really cool old sink for it. And there are lockers we use in there now that will look super sweet in their final location when it’s all finished. Bead-board may be involved in the wall treatments. White paint will definitely have a place. I have cool light fixtures. I have all the bones to make it really great – now I just need the muscle and brains to get the heavy, remodel work finished!

I enjoyed seeing your full house tour. You have done some creative things in your home!
Thanks Kelly! I am anxious to finish up a few more projects and update some of the rooms on the blog. if I can find time among all the pillows I need to make and the paint I’m selling and all the furniture I’m painting!
Oh I love so many things!!!!! I have to ask – the striped walls – are they painted or wallpaper. I have been wanting to do something similar in my office.
Gina, the stripes are painted on! The first time we painted the room I painted the whole room with flat paint and then used glossy paint the exact same color for the stripes. Several years later when I wanted the walls painted again I used the same color but in a satin. Then I used a faux finish glazing for the stripes. You have to be really careful with the glazing as it’s really made to use for a sponged look. I put it on the taped off stripes and then used a brush to make it even from top to bottom. It’s not perfect but it turned out good enough for me!
You have done a wonderful job on your house. You are always one busy lady! How do you home school and still do all the other things? I’ll pray for extra stamina for you.
Thanks Nancy! Homeschooling doesn’t take as long as the kids spend in school when they go to school. when you have a classroom full of kids it takes longer to do a subject than it does when only one child is doing it. We are really laid back and relaxed about it too. We don’t carry near the subject load some do. My girls are learning but we don’t require them to learn a bunch of stuff that they will just memorize for a test and then forget. And they do a lot of it on their own. I really don’t have to help the older two much at all anymore. Some of the work is on dvd’s or online and that helps tons. We make it work for us! And I don’t spend time running my kids to school stuff like some moms. Somehow it all works out 🙂
Your home is warm and welcoming…the white makes everything look pristine!! Love what you did in the girls’ rooms and your headboard of an old ladder is inspired! You are indeed blessed to have the table your dad made – it is totally cool!
Thanks so much Susan! We enjoy the home we have created!
Jill, I enjoyed seeing every bit of your home. You have done so much with so many great finds and your painting and sewing talents. I love the size of your kitchen, actually all of your rooms look nice size. And all the different cabinets in the kitchen make it so unique and cute! I really do love everything…thanks for the tour!
Jane xx
Thanks Jane! it was fun to put this post together – sort of a reminder what all we have done here!
I really like Larke and Becca’s room. What a clever idea.
Thanks Crystal!
Your home is lovely . I love old homes and have always wanted to live in one. Maybe some day.
I really like the molding, windows and doors in your house. They just don’t make things like they use to.
You have the coolest stuff and I love how you have used everything. I was at a sale last month and saw a metal piece almost identical to the one you have in your living room with the wreath. I passed on it but now I wish I would have bought it. I also have lockers that came from a school. They were along the side of the road and I brought them home with me. My husband thought I was nuts but they are now in my laundry room and he thinks they a pretty cool.
I would have a hard time picking a favorite room but the little nook and living room are mine. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home.
Thank you so much Michelle! It’s been fun turning this old house into a warm, functional, cozy, happy, pretty home!
You haven’t painted your piano yet? LOL. You said you wanted to. Heh you could use the fusion paint?
yeah, Tammie, I just can’t seem to get to my own projects! LOL!
I love your house tour here on your blog! This is fun!
Thank you!
