My 40th birthday was Thursday and I thoroughly embraced the day! My sister didn’t get to come after all, but she is improving and we are hoping and praying that continues.
My teenager and I got up early on Thursday and headed out before 8am to find some treasures at garage sales. How convenient was it that citywide garage sales were taking place in our little hometown!?! We had a blast. Emma loves garage sales and was on the lookout for a couch for her room. We scored a really cute one for $10. I’ll show it to you later this week.
I found a carload of great stuff and also a truckload of furniture I had my hubby pick up in his truck. His truck is years and years old and doesn’t run great but it does the job for picking up my great finds 😀
At almost noon we finally returned home for some food. My 8 year old met me at the car wondering if I’d brought her a root beer like I said I would. I’d forgot! So she and I hopped in the car and hustled to Dollar General where she grabbed her root beer, one for her Sis, a box of mac-n-cheese and a bottle of juice for Emma. Then we had to stop at some garage sales Emma and I hadn’t been to yet! Becca loves garage sales too – she found some little things at a couple of them and each time she got something we headed to the car with her giggling away and saying how much she loved garage sales! I think I’m passing my addiction for the hunt on to my girls!
Emma and I went to a few more sales after Travis and I picked up all the big stuff I bought – a desk, rocker, chair and Emma’s couch. I’ll show it all to you soon – I did take pics of all of it! Then Emma and I headed to her voice lessons. After voice lessons, Travis took Emma to my Mom’s so they could get ready for the party they had planned for me on Friday night.
I took the younger two to their gymnastics lessons, and then I worked on getting things together for my own yard sale the next day. Travis had been talking about having a garage sale on the weekend. I didn’t want tied to one since my sister was planning to be here. Since she didn’t make it I decided I could help him with it. HA! I ended up doing all the work and selling my stuff! I did pretty well for a last minute, thrown together, one day sale. I decided one day was enough and packed up the leftovers Friday afternoon.
Friday evening we went to my Mom’s for my party. I loved what my Mom and Teenager came up with! All the pics were so fun and the food and cake was pretty and yummy. Tator Tot casserole has been a fav of mine ever since I was a little girl. Comfort food at its finest! Broccoli/Cauliflower salad, bran muffins, cake and ice cream. Yum Yum.
Saturday morning I took all three of my girls out to garage sales. They all took their money and we all found a few more treasures 🙂 The rest of the day we worked in the yard – got mulch all spread and it looks about as good as it can around here for now 😀
It was a good 40th. Nothing at all to get worked up about. It’s just a number anyway right?!

Follow along with me here!
Joyeux anniversaire! A perfect day indeed. Please forgive my delayed wishes as you know I was off of the electronic grid. I found forty to indeed be just a number. When I used to work in the medical industry a dear Dr. used to celebrate anniversaries of his 29th birthday. It’s sounds so fun to say I’m celebrating my 11th anniversary. As always I am SO happy to have the privilege of turning another year older. Embrace it all.
Thanks so much Laura! Yes, there is only one alternative to getting older – so I’ll take each day and each year joyfully!
I’m so glad you had a great few days and such a wonderful party. You make me tired just reading about it!! Happy Birthday!!
XO,
Jane
Thanks Jane!
Happy 40th! Your family gave you such a sweet celebration.
I will be praying for a quick healing for your Sis!
I love following your post, but I’m not a great commenter….
Thanks so much kimberly. My sister is feeling some better and we are hoping it keeps improving.
Wow!!! So much fun with your family. I wish we lived close as I love yard sales and need to have a huge one of my own. I will start this week into my 77th year and although both my children are married with children of their own, I get to spend at least part of the day with them. I don’t know if I would be up for all the activities you had but so glad you shared them with us. Live everyday like it is your birthday. God bless
Thanks Jan, I did have a wonderful time with my family. God bless you too!
Happy (Belated) Birthday Jill!
Sounds like you had a great day!:)
Thanks so much Kellie!
Happy Birthday! Just started getting your emails again (along with a whole bunch of others I was out of touch with) so I will have to read through the old one to learn about your sister. Hope everything is okay and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers, Elaine So happy to be back!
Thanks Elaine! My sister is doing better and we are hoping it keeps improving!

Happy birthday and the best wishes for you. Eliza 🙂
Thanks so much!
I’m so glad to hear that you had a fun day on your special birthday. Happy 40th Birthday again!!!! Your family treated you right too. Love how the tatertot casserole had 40 hidden in it! Bet you didn’t know I saw that did you? You’re lucky to have your girls like going garage saling with you. I’m sure that was a fun day. Can’t wait to see what you got.
Thanks Kelly! It was great the way my daughter tucked that ’40’ into the casserole huh?!
Wishing you a very belated B/d. You sure don’t look 40 kiddo. Glad you had a great day and your family made you feel special, did so many special things for you. Feels kinda good to be made a fuss over doesn’t it? Just for one day anyway. Your girls are so pretty, nice caring young women.
A couch for $10, you better be happy you live in OH, no prices like that in western CO. I’m pretty darned envious of all the goodies you found at yard sales. I’m too lazy to get up early enuf to get the good stuff if there is any. My curiosity is peaking tho so might just have to go Friday. Happy Happy days
Thanks so much JaneEllen! I had a great time and so much fun stocking up on all these great finds. I’m hard at work now getting some custom orders made, a magazine project done, and getting stuff ready for my July event!
