Cherry Blueberry Pie
I love Cherry Pie. Made with real sour cherries picked from a tree, not the can of pie filling from the grocery. I also love Blueberry Pie. Same scenario – no can of pie filling from the store, but real blueberries in a filling made from scratch. I recently cleaned out the freezer side of my refrigerator and I found a freezer container of frozen sour cherries that we had picked from my parents cherry tree a few years ago. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough cherries for a pie.
I waited a couple days thinking perhaps inspiration would strike for another dessert that would be good with sour cherries. But I really wanted a pie and I had homemade pie crusts in the freezer so I decided it was time to improvise.
I had blueberries in the freezer too so I mixed the blueberries and cherries and combined my pie recipes.
The fruit looks lovely together.
Our favorite top crust for Cherry Pie is a crumb crust. I put chopped pecans in mine.
You can print the recipe for this yummy pie below.

Cherry Blueberry Pie

- 2 cups sour cherries fresh or frozen
- 2 cups blueberries fresh or frozen
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 TBS cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp almond flavoring
- One unbaked pie shell
- One recipe of crumb crust for top
Instructions
- Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon together and add to thawed and drained fruit. Mix well and add lemon juice and almond flavoring.
- Pour into pie shell, add crumb crust on top.
- Bake at 375° for 1 hour.
We still like Cherry Pie the best but this was a pretty good stand-in when there weren’t enough cherries.
I’d recommend you try this if you have some blueberries and cherries hanging out in your freezer like I did 😀
Vanilla ice cream is great as a side dish to the main dessert too.
I hope your week was lovely. And if you don’t have a dessert planned for Super Bowl Sunday you could always make a Cherry Blueberry Pie! Your welcome!
This sounds and looks delicious. Love that you added pecans to the crumb topping. Pinning this to try.
Thanks for the inspiration,
Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne! It’s a yummy one!
Yummy!!
It was Carla! 🙂
Ok now I’m trying to be good so I don’t gain weight, this time of year is hard for me especially as I love me some comfort food. Absolutely delicious looking and sounding pie. My hard to resist foods are baking of just about anything, your pie for one. I crave fruit so badly and fresh is ridiculously expensive. Red grapes at City Mkt. are tiny for $2.99 a lb. eeeekkk. I won’t be making this with fresh fruit/will be frozen and a frozen pie crust from grocery store.
For somebody that came from family of from scratch bakers and cooks I’m a dismal failure. Hopefully I have some other talents, still waiting to find out. Happy weekend
If you make this JaneEllen, let me know how you liked it!
This looks so yummy! I might have to try this. And by the way, there are still cherries in my freezer and you are welcome to have some whenever you want.
Oh YUMMY! Your son-in-law would be delighted if you wanted to get rid of the cherries by bringing them over for me to make pies with 😉
looks too good to eat! that said, I would totally have a slice right now
My mouth is watering at the bittersweet, tart deliciousness you created in pie form. YUM.
You make my mouth water Amy! I should have had you write a caption for my pie!

I created this when I didn’t have enough cherries to make a whole pie – it was quite yummy! Thanks so much for coming by Dina!
This pie makes me want spring to be here so badly! Yum!
