Sunday evening my girls were part of a Christmas play at church. A shadow dancing play. Well, 2 of them were part of the play and one of them was part of the audience watching the play. For some reason my middle girl decided she didn’t want to participate this time. The play was amazing and so totally awesome. I did the best I could at photographing it!
We arrived to a candlelit sanctuary and piano music played by a couple young girls.
The play began with a bright light and a narration about the origin of light.
And moved on to Mary as she was visited by the Angel Gabriel.
She was fearful but was assured by the Angel that she was blessed among women and had no reason to fear.
‘For you will have a baby and call His name Jesus!’
Mary was engaged to a man named Joseph so she told him her amazing news.
Then the King gave a decree that all the people had to be taxed.
Joseph and Mary would have to travel to Bethlehem as each man must register in the city where he was born.
So Mary and Joseph started on their journey, Mary riding a donkey 😉
In Bethlehem it was so crowded there was nowhere for Mary and Joseph to stay – till a kind Innkeeper offered his stable.
And there Mary had her first-born Son and laid Him in a manger.
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Some shepherds in the hills outside town were watching over their flocks.
Suddenly an angel appeared in front of them! They were so afraid!
But the angel had great news for them – a Savior had been born! And he was soon joined by a lot more angels, all singing praises to God.
After the angels went away the shepherds talked about what to do. They decided they should go at once to find the baby. (the sheep agreed with much baaa-ing.)
They found the Baby with His mother and Joseph just as the angels had said.
The shepherds worshiped the baby and praised God.
Later some Wise Men from the East came to Bethlehem looking for the Baby.
They had seen a giant star that foretold the birth of the King of the Jews.
They found the child and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
And beyond the manger is the cross – where Jesus freely gave His life for all who will accept the gift He freely gives!
The choir sang after the Shadow Play.
The audience lit candles.
Cookies, hot chocolate, and coffee were served. And everyone went home with smiles on their faces!
Emma and her best friend Rebee. These beautiful ladies had solo parts in the choir and they sounded amazing!
Enjoy this holiday season!
