I need a bigger house. I’ve known it for a long time but I keep ignoring the fact. My husband has said we need a bigger house for years – ever since I started dragging home all manner of vintage finds. I distinctly remember him saying so one day after I’d been out shopping for vintage finds.
These past few weeks have been a bit stressful on all of us as I have dragged piece after piece of furniture into our dining room and gave them all makeovers. The paths have slowly narrowed to the point of becoming dangerous. Last night I decided that in just a couple of days the stuff was all going to be sitting outside under a tent so what would it hurt for it to sit on my porch for 24 hours?? And in about 20 minutes I cleared my dining room of all that extra furniture and cleared the stacked-to-the-ceiling table of all the paint, tools, and junk that had accumulated throughout the duration of the projects. Hubby swept and we can breathe a bit. Can’t wait to start loading that truck!
Another reason I need a bigger house is because I love all sorts of vintage furniture and I just don’t have the room to house it! Buffets are one of my favs. And I finally found one to redo. It is one heavy, well-made piece of furniture let me tell ya. It’s all I can do to get my end of it off the ground enough to move it. We had to carry it up the porch steps and Travis kept saying ‘You need to lift it higher’, to which I would reply, ‘I CAN’T!!!’ I’m a wimp, I admit it.
Here is the ‘before’. Sorry for the dark photo I didn’t have the energy to edit.
And after. Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in ‘Shutter Gray’ topped with ‘Linen’. Rub-n-buff on the drawer pulls and vintage crystal knobs purchased at a local antique shop. Inside the far door there is a drawer divided for silverware. This piece could hold some serious table setting paraphernalia! I love a good buffet!
Way overexposed but I kinda liked it. I would have loved to bring this piece in and stage it properly for you but there is nowhere in my house for staging right now – everything is covered with stuff for The Vintage Marketplace! Well, except the dining room table, it will be clear for a few hours and then I will start filling it with all my handmade stuff that I still have to drag out of it’s storage spot in our bedroom.
Not only do I need a bigger house I need a workshop. And a store front. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever DREAM of having my own shop. Now the dream is trying to push its way in. I wonder just what God has in store for me and Sew a Fine Seam?!

You definitely need a work shop! I’ll take one too, please. 🙂 Your buffet turned out so beautiful!! I am working on a buffet right now and it feels like it will never be done!
I can relate with all of this! (Except the store!) So glad I’m in good company. As of yesterday I no longer have two coffee tables in my living room, but I do have 14 chairs in my dining room, getting ready to list on Craigslist, and I noticed my lamp collection is up to eight in the guest room, I’ll stop there. 🙂
Love the transformation. You have really made a beautiful piece shine!!!! Good luck on the space thing…we never have enough 🙁
Jill, isn’t it amazing how fast your home can fill up? That buffet is gorgeous, for sure.
How exciting to think of you having a shop! 🙂

Ah, you do beautiful work! I have been looking for a dresser (I can afford) for close to two years. Just haven’t happened upon it yet.

Gorgeous! I love the color you chose and how it turned out! Amazing job : )
