This week is Vacation Bible School at the church we fellowship at. Every evening from 6:30 to 8:30 kids from 4 to 12 have a wonderfully fun time learning about the Apostle Paul in Athens.
There are games, organized and led by the teens who are too old to participate in vbs. Emma is helping out there. It’s crazy that I already have a daughter too old for vbs! She starts high school in just a few weeks – EEEEEKK!
There are fun snacks, themed to go with what the kids are learning. ‘Torches’ made from ice cream cones filled with cheesy popcorn. Last night it was pretzels – called ‘Prison Bars’.
The kids all have little money bags and are given pennies. They have to ‘buy’ their food and crafts and music instruments. And after the first night the kids take some of their own money, and the parents pitch in and the money collected will go to support kids in India. It’s so fun to see the kids get excited about how much money we raise. After the first 2 nights the pot was at 230+.
Precious little faces – all God’s little people.
The volunteers are great – so many helping hands willing to give of themselves and their time for the children.
The decor is so cool too. ‘David’ even left his spot on my living room shelf and joined the show. He broods here just as he does on his shelf but doesn’t he look Greek?!
Each night at the end of the evening there is a short skit. Monday night one of the actors was Lydia, seller of purple. This is the basket she carried. The sign conveniently holds the actors lines on the back side – sorry Athena I had to add that detail 😉
Food Table Decor – looks good enough to eat – but be careful! Some of it is faux 😀
A great set-up, planned and pulled together by some very lovely, dedicated girls and parents. So thankful for each and every one of you! God bless you all!
If you live in my area, and you have kids ages 4 to 12 bring them over any or all of the rest of the evenings this week! We’d love to have you.
Sew a Fine Seam
For me as a child – VBS was where I learned the 23rd Psalm and The Lord’s Prayer and I can still remember my cigar box art project! Life changing and the only “church” many children get!
That’s awesome there was a vbs available to you Bernideen! I love that it’s geared for kids with lots of fun stuff but they are learning about Jesus too.
Thank you for sharing the details of VBS and so glad “David” could make an appearance!
Looks like a great curriculum! We did VOM this year & really liked the message. My favorite VBS when I was young was very similar to this one, they had a village set up and we had coins and went from tent to tent buying our snack, craft, etc. I remember my mom making some sweet bread in the snack tent, kind of like elephant ears. They had animals like donkeys and sheep all around too – great memories 🙂
