When I was a little girl we had an upholstered chair that would rock and swivel. I loved that chair! When my Mom wasn’t looking (or was ignoring the fact that I was doing something I’d been told not to) I’d sit with one leg in that chair and use the other to make myself go around and around as fast as I could.
Seriously, why would you make a chair with the ability to swivel around if it wasn’t built for kids to use as a merry-go-round? Why was playing on it so hard on it? It lasted for years – and I really don’t remember what ever became of it. I do recall that it became threadbare – but it would still rock and swivel!! I must have worn it out at some point because it isn’t around anymore.
This rock-and-swivel chair I found at a garage sale when I was out looking for things to take to the Springfield flea. It’s heavier than it looks but Marcy and I hefted it into the back of my Saturn and I hauled it home.
A quick slipcover and it was ready for a new life.
This was the easiest slipcover I’ve made yet – maybe I’m just getting better and faster with each one I do? Practice makes perfect I guess 😀
Don’t you just love the legs on this? I thought they were so cute. Travis thought I should add scallops to the bottom of the cover but I didn’t feel like taking the time to make the scallops. Had it come back home with me from the flea I would have added the scallops and used it in my living room for a while. But it was the first of my chairs to sell 🙂
The original upholstery is green and wasn’t horrible but it had a spot on the back and a fresh new cover just makes it so much more fun.
Just had to see the after shot again. Do you like old chairs that rock and swivel?

The chair is darling. I love it when you can whip up a simple slipcover and give a chair a whole new look.
Thanks Alaina!
My grandpa had a chair like this, it was orange. When he passed away I asked for it and my mom had it reupholstered – I was in high school and chose a creamy white (you would have loved it). But once I had children it became an ugly dirty gray and bit the dust structurally as well. I loved that chair because it suited my short stature.
You are right Jenni, they do fit us short people really well!
It looks wonderful! Hooray for it selling, although I think your girls would have had a lot fun swiveling it.
😀 Don’t tell them what they are missing – heehee!
Yes I do! Your kids are gonna have a ball!!! When we re-do our great room I will be getting swivel rockers and I can’t wait!
Blessings,
Cindy
Nice old furniture is the best isn’t it Cindy?!
We had a chair similar to this when I was growing up. My dad would read the newspaper in this chair, and when my parents weren’t paying attention, we would sit in it and take turns spinning each other around. The chair looks so cute with the updated slipcover!
We did the same thing! It was such fun to play on!
I love the rocking and swiveling chairs. I was like you, thinking they were made for fun! I still love them to this day. You were a genius to create a slipcover for it. You never cease to amaze me with your talents!

I’m sort of sad it sold – but I can’t keep everything so not really!
