My oldest daughter was our only daughter for 4 and a half years before her little sister came along. When I had birthday parties for her I went all out – planning weeks and sometimes a couple of months in advance. I loved getting all the details in place and creating a fun party. Daughter number 2 had a few parties with all the details and daughter number 3 had a couple – well, maybe one! Somehow my stamina for getting all those fun details together waned as I got busier and had more kids to take care of.
This past weekend I was privileged to help out a friend who was putting together a fun, detailed birthday party for her little 1-year-old. My friend had all the details and crafty fun made, the decor items gathered, and she just wanted a bit of help getting it all set up. I was delighted to help out – and I took my camera so I could share!!
Some of the inspiration for Lila’s party, her Mom found here. The ribbon and burlap garland on the china cupboard came from an idea on Pinterest. Angie borrowed some sheep and a few other things from friends, made the darling pom-poms with the help of her girls, made some adorable yarn balls, and used stamped tags for place cards.
Burlap runner on top of a ruffled muslin runner with a doily and jute twine garland tucked in made for fun layers and texture.
Isn’t that garland just so cute and fun?! And I love it on that beautiful china hutch. Did you notice the adorable felt sheep?
Let’s look at them a bit closer – they are just so fun! Another friend of Angie’s sewed them up for her when she found out the theme was sheep. What a wonderful friend 🙂
Angie’s dining room is so lovely and was so much fun to help decorate with all the great, fun stuff she had crafted.
Darling cupcake for Lila, the birthday girl, topped with a vintage sheep and chocolate curls. Chocolate curls are not the easiest things to make and work with – I know because I asked Angie 😉
Just look at the totally cute cake she made using chocolate curls to make the wool! Cutest thing ever.
Somehow I managed to take only one photo of the cake! I still can’t believe I did that – I usually take about 50 more of each thing than I really need too! This one has quite a bit of ‘noise’ going on since I cropped the photo above to bring the cake in closer. Still shows you how cute that cake is though!
Cute cute outfit for the birthday girl! Yes, I made those leggings 🙂
And here she is! The birthday girl herself! Isn’t she adorable? I get to hold this little gal in church when her Daddy plays his guitar with the worship team. Her big brother still likes to be held too so I take Lila so Mommy can hold him! I think it works out just great.
Hmmm. Let’s check this thing out and see what we have here.
I’m so proud of Angie for making Lila’s birthday party so detailed, cute and fun. Child number 5 and she made sure to make her first birthday memorable. Love it. Her other 3 girls had fun helping with all the crafty stuff too. Not sure if big brother helped with that or not 🙂
I was so happy to get a good shot of Lila with Mommy and Daddy – what a lovely family! Can you tell Lila wasn’t sitting still? Just look at those feet! Gotta love energy of a 1-year-old!
She will soon be walking!
I think she gets an A+ for this party don’t you?

When i finished reading this post and looking at the lovely pics, i felt something strange on my face. You see, it is 4:55am, and i would normally be sleeping. But not this morning! This morning it is little sheep, little girls, special parties, and loving feelings. That strange thing on my face? Why, a smile of course! Thank you.
Awww, so happy it made you smile! It was a fun post to write – fun pics to take – fun party to help out with! Thank you so much for coming by and leaving me such a sweet comment!
Awww, thanks Louise Marie! Glad it made you smile 🙂
What a wonderful celebration for the whole family. Love the sheep theme and the fact that most of the decorations can be repurposed and used again.
Thanks Donna, wasn’t it all so lovely? I thought she could just leave the chandi all decked out for the rest of spring at least 🙂
This couldn’t be any sweeter, what a darling theme, love that little cupcake! How lucky are you!!!!
I was very lucky to get to help out with this one! I loved the cupcake detail – so much more fun than just cutting the birthday girl a piece of cake!
Ahhh thanks Jill for the beautiful Post. Put a HUGE smile on my face too! We love her to death… such a blessing in our life. As are all the friends and family who helped in many ways to make this party come together in the week that I had to work on it.
Thank YOU for letting me help out and take some pics! It was all so lovely!
She’s just a little doll! I loved her party decorations. The lamb theme is darling. I can’t get over the detail put into the cake too! She is one lucky little girl.
I know, Kelly, I loved the cake too. My friend said she had to use tweezers to put those curls on – they are quite fragile!
What adorable 1st birthday party decorations!! Lovely!
Leslie
It was lovely wasn’t it Leslie?! So fun to help with one this great!
What a beautiful party. Your friend made the right choice asking you for help. And, that momma is impressive. How sweet that she put so much effort in to this party. I adore the leggins with the rosette embellishment. This was a really sweet, perfectly detailed first birthday party.
Awww, thanks Amy, you are always so sweet! It had all the great details didn’t it?!
What a great party and she is just a little doll. There are some wonderful party ideas there and I love the little lamb cake. What could be more perfect than that? Well, maybe her ruffled pants! xo Diana
🙂 Thanks Diana, it was a great party atmosphere my friend created! I was so happy to get to help out a bit!
I love birthday parties, even though we don’t go all out too much anymore either.
That baby and the cake are both adorable! One-year olds are so sweet! It looks like lots of fun.
Isn’t Lila a dolly? Remember all our little ‘dollies’? Where did the time go?!
She definitely gets super high marks! So sweet of you to help and take pictures. Not only do the extra hands make light work, it’s also just more fun together, isn’t it? So many cute touches and what a sweet family!

She’s a great Mom and homeschooler and I love how she went all out with this party in spite of still being in the midst of school and all the business of Spring!
What an adorable party & theme, those little leggings are so sweet….
Back in the early 80’s when my kids were little, we didn’t have more than cake & ice cream for the family & a few instamatic camera shots that you hoped to remember to take them in to get developed (I still have many undeveloped rolls) Times sure have changed, my Grands have had some pretty fun parties ~ with instant upload & sharing of pics on the computer…. & I’m not even That Old!
Thanks for sharing…

Thanks Cheryl, I felt so privileged to get to help out a bit with this one!
Oh what a wonderful event! That baby….makes my arms ache. 🙂
Wonderful job. Your new profile photo is lovely. I spy with my little eye…a darling turquoise necklace. Looks GREAT on you!
First off, totally agree with Laura Ingalls Gunn – love the new profile pic and necklace…I’ve been studying the Dressing Your Truth program and now I notice necklines & necklaces waaaay too much 😉
Angie did a fantastic job – such a sweet theme! I went all out with A’s first everything and then slacked off on the other two. But now that I have big helpers and pink to decorate for, I might have to do a big first bang. I have been pinning things on Pinterest and she just turned 6 months old – yikes!
You should have Ang do a guest post on the curls. They are so pretty (and my mom used to have that sheep cake pan and made a sheep cake every Easter) but I always think I can’t make them and shy away from them.
Love that you got great shots and Lila, mom and dad! And sibs – terrific idea to have a friend over to do some shots – what are you doing in October? Want to come over? 🙂
Yes, I agree, you BOTH get an A+! Everything is so adorable. The cake reminds me of one my sil or mil makes every year for Easter brunch. I love love love the leggings you made Jill. They are TOO cute! Did you also make the little barrette in her hair? What a fun birthday party. And I know what you mean about running out of steam….I’ve done the same. Poor #4 hasn’t gotten half the number of birthday parties #1 did!!

You could absolutely call at your knowledge in the artwork you’re. The world desires for a lot more enthusiastic writers as if you who aren’t frightened post where did they consider. Continuously go after the cardiovascular system.
