In the fall of 2010, I took my girls in for hair cuts and then to the photographer for photos to use in Christmas cards. Sometime after that Becca, my youngest, heard someone talking about Locks of Love. She was 5 at the time. After having the concept explained to her she announced that she wanted to do that. I will admit to being a tad skeptical that she would actually be able to grow it for that long. But she did! Over 2 years later, March of 2013, she had her waist length hair cut, donating it to Locks of Love.
Right before we left for the hair cut appointment.
Patiently waiting her turn. She leaned over at one point and whispered to me that she was nervous. Little sweetheart!
Ready! Just a few more moments to short hair.
Now for a little styling.
2+ years of growth ready to be shipped off to bless another child who needs hair.
All done and ready to go. We had the cut done at Giacomo’s in Troy. They send the hair in for you and the cut was free.
We picked up one of Becca’s friends after the hair cut. Meg is 4 and had wanted to come for a sleepover for months. We finally set a date and had her over.
This little gal usually won’t have anything to do with smiling for my camera. But somehow seeing Becca posing for pics she forgot her usual mantra and insisted she was next. So I very willingly obliged.
She’s the same little lady from my tale of a scarf. She’s cute smiling or not 🙂

How sweet of her. I’m not sure I knew why she had long hair like that.
On a side note, I’ve been seriously considering it myself 🙂
I did it once Kendra – I didn’t need a cut so I did it myself and sent it in myself.
Beautiful hair! And beautiful little girl! Tears in my eyes! So sweet to think of someone in need being blessed with that beautiful hair. And she still has beautiful hair.
Becky, I understand. She is so sweet. Tears in my eyes, too.
She says she is going to grow it long again and donate it again so we shall see! Another 2 years and it may be waist length again!
Love it! My bestie’s daughter does this and she is young just like yours. Her bob looks adorable on her too! What a beautiful heart 🙂 xo Kristin
Thank you Kristin! It’s so nice when young kids think it’s fun to help others out!
Cute, cute post. Love Becca’s heart, and her new hairstyle too.
Her hair is beautiful, and some girl will love it.
Fun to see pics of Meg too–I haven’t seen her in a long time.
Thanks Colista!
Thank you for sharing this sweet mother/daughter experience. What great things you are teaching your daughter. You both have wonderful hearts. She is absolutely beautiful with long or short hair! She has made some little girl very happy with her gift of love.
Thank you Carla 🙂
awwwwwwww that is the sweetest!
k.
🙂 She was so happy about it 🙂
I did that a year ago…my oldest (3 1/2 at that time) was able to donate 11+inches…she was SO HAPPY about it. What a sweet blessing
It’s so fun when our kids want to do stuff like this isn’t it?!
She looks SO cute!
Wow- What a wonderful thing for her to do—and to GET the concept at that age. She is a darling little girl with long or short hair. I really like her sassy new cut! Her little friend is cute, too- xo Diana
I know, Diana, I was a little surprised when she wanted to do it and then stuck to it for over 2 years! I love her cut too and I called it sassy too 🙂
Well, I will try to write thru the tears. So very sweet. How proud you must be. May God bless.
Thanks Regena, we are very blessed to have this little lady in our lives!
So sweet of her, she is precious!
Blessings,
Cindy
Thanks Cindy, we think she is a sweetheart but we are a bit biased 🙂
AMAZING. You must be so proud of your beautiful little girl. She obviously has been raised so well to want, at 5, to do something so selfless. You weren’t kidding, her hair is BEAUTIFUL.
🙂 Not sure it’s anything I’ve done Amy! She has a loving heart and it is so sweet to see her want to give to someone who needs it.
She was a beauty on Thursday, and every bit a beauty on Friday! Meg cuts her own hair for LOL every 3 or 4 months- I’m sure some little boy somewhere needs her crew cut trimmings.
🙂 That Meg is a hoot! Maybe she could tape all her trimmings together to make a 10 inch length 😀
How wonderful! Her new bob is precious and for a great cause.
Thank you Rachel! We are enjoying the ease of washing it now!
My youngest daughter did Locks of Love two different times and was so thrilled to do it both times. I love that this is such a sweet gift our girls can give. Tell your daughter that I think it’s a wonderful thing she did and that her new haircut is BEYOND adorable. Great for spring and summer.
I agree Amy, I think it’s great too! Happy Easter!
Oh Jill, she couldn’t be more adorable, and to know she’s just as kind and compassionate is so heartwarming! What an inspiration she is!
Thank you Pam, we think she is pretty special! She looks pretty spunky and sassy with her new ‘do’ too! 🙂
Love, love, love seeing these photos! I can just see her face when she whispered to you that she was nervous. She’s so fun!!
It’s always funny how quickly your brush goes through your hair when you get it cut after having it long. And a huge difference in shampoo and washing time!
I don’t miss the combing, washing, and drying one bit!
She’s so sweet – with long or short hair! I’m sure it will be easier to wash & take care of now. It looks like it was really shiny & healthy! I have thought about doing this myself, I accidently trimmed waaaay too much one time and I know I had more than 10″ (is that the minimum amount?) but didn’t look into it. As a side note – I cannot believe Meg is 4 already! Seems like you just had her baby shower last week 🙁
It is much easier to care for now! yes, 10 inches is the minimum requirement.
How sweet. My granddaughter did the same thing when she was 4.
It is sweet of them to do isn’t it Kim? Somehow my daughter is picking up some good things in spite of her often stressed and harried Mom 😀
Your daughter is beautiful Jill, inside and out. I’m sure there is a very happy child out there somewhere with a beautiful new head of hair. 🙂 We have pictures like that too, from when two of my daughters did the same. They’ve grown their hair out long enough to do it again, but they are kind of liking it long now. If it gets much longer, they can donate it and STILL have long hair!
Debbie
oh, my God! Becca was really adorable and a precious looking girl with long hair… and.. she is really a pretty young girl with her short hair now!! she must be real proud of having short hair now… thank you for sharing! have a blessed day
