Friends are wonderful people. Life would be so dull and boring without friends. Friends are there to help through trials, laugh with you , cry with you, pray for you, and just generally make life better.
The friends you grow up with may drift away as life takes you in different directions. Getting married brings new people into your life. Moving requires meeting new people and creating new friendships.
Email and Facebook have made it much more possible to keep long-distance friendships alive.
I have reconnected with friends from my past since facebook was invented.
My Mom used to quote this to me – ‘Make new friends, keep the old, one is silver, the other gold.’ How true.
I love making new friends. The world of blogging has added a plethora of friends to my life that I have never met but with whom I very much feel the bonds of friendship.
Old friendships are so golden. There is just something about meeting up with an old friend that you haven’t seen for a while that is wonderful. You have shared memories, you have bonds that span the space of time. You can reminisce. You can catch up on what you lives are like now.
With some old friends, you can pick up right where you left off after being separated for years. With some new friends it’s like you have been friends forever. I am so glad God created us to need friends!
These chairs came to me by way of an old friend. A friend I grew up with and spent many a fun time with. She now lives a couple of hours North of me and I haven’t seen her for years. When a friend of hers asked about getting slip covers made my friend recommended me.
The chairs were dropped off by my clients parents. I met the chairs owner when she and her husband picked them up Saturday. They are a lovely couple, it was so fun to meet them. She seems like just the kind of person who would get along well with my old friend 🙂 It was fun to have the connection of our mutual friend. Now I want to see my friend again – it’s been too long.
Friends are a blessing,
Thank you so much Lord,
Friends are a gift,
From God up on high,
You said if we needed,
You would always supply,
So thank you so much Lord,
Friends by our side.

Thanks Loi! I love the white white fabric.
Your sweet shots made it look like those two chairs were old friends having a wonderful afternoon together. The covers you put on them (did you make them?) turned them into lovely ladies.

I too am so thankful for old and new friends. I pray often for the Lord to bless my family with the friends that He wants us to have and that our friendships will be fruitful. I praise Him for the friends He has given us over the years and the ones to come.

Tania
Hi Tania! Thanks for coming by 🙂
Jill, Your chairs look lovely. What a cozy corner to sit and talk or read. I love to sew as well. Did you have to wash the duck several times to soften it? The duck at Joann’s seems very stiff, but so reasonably priced that I would love to try using it. Please let me know. Love your blog. We are following you.
Have a Happy Easter!
Peace
Linda at The French Hens Nest
Hi Linda, I only washed the duck once before making the chair slips. I didn’t wash it all at once, I cut it into smaller pieces and did them a few at a time. When I was finished with the slips I washed and dried them again just to soften them a bit more. The duck cloth feels like a board when you buy it but it does loosen up and become easy to work with once it is washed. I had Mrs. Meyer’s dryer sheets that I used in the dryer. Using fabric softener in the washer would probably be an ok idea too.
I am glad you resisted the urge to keep them, Jill! 🙂 They make me smile every time I come into the sun room. You did a fabulous job! I couldn’t be happier with them. I am so glad you are just an hour away so that I can use you for other projects!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
🙂 I’d love to see them in their new home Maralee – send me a pic if you get a chance.
You did a great job on the slips. Sounds like Maralee (above) love them. You are right about the many kinds of friends and how we can feel connected to them whether they are blog friends, everyday friends, or friends we don’t see too often.
Thanks Elizabeth! She did really love them 🙂 It’s so fun to create something someone really loves.
Gorgeous job and I seriously think you need two chairs for your nook – love the staging!
Travis has wanted me to put something there to sit on for years. I might have to keep my eye out for something 🙂
They look awesome!
Friendship is a precious gift! I have memories I treasure, even though it’s been years since I saw those friends.
And my best friend is my sister – and there is nothing she can do about it cause we are family 😀
very pretty! 🙂
Thank you Debra! So glad you came by!

This was such a lovely post on friendship. My best friend moved across the country 2 years ago, but we still keep in touch a few times a week. I cannot tell you how much I love the chairs. nice to meet you, Mariaelena
Thank you mariaelena, for your sweet comment. I love making new blogging friends! So happy you stopped by and commented 🙂
You got a round of applause for your slip covers, chairs look like old friends that stopped off in your corner to have a long chat, love your corner with the adorable chandy. I was studying them to see how you put them together. I’ve yet to make a slipcover, (chicken) but want to for hubs old recliner, ugh, it’s so gross. Thought about just cutting pieces and stapling them on. It’s a really old chair. Thought I’d put some batting on first then put fabric over and staple, what can it hurt? The fabric I have in mind is pretty heavy so not sure my machine could handle too much. Any advice would be so appreciated. You’re the sewing master here.
I have to tell you I loved the poem about friends and the saying your Mom quoted. So so true. My friends have been there for me in rough times but not my family. Hurtful but it’s how it is. Anyway love your blog. You’re a pretty wise gal for somebody so young. To me anybody that’s 50 or less is still “very young”, up til 70 youngish, lol. I’m 73, just turned. Everybody keeps telling me I’m old now, excuse me, I don’t feel old at all young whippersnappers. With that I’ll bid ado. Just bein’ silly. Ok gotta go, finally, I heard that breath of thank heavens.
Jane you are so funny! I love your comments! I don’t see why it would hurt to do the chair the way you are thinking! When you get it all stapled on then use some gimp trim or make piping and hot glue it over your staple lines. That’s what uphosterers do. Recliners would be really tricky to slipcover. It could probably be done but it would take quite a bit of time to figure out exactly how to do it so the chair would still work as a recliner. My Mom has asked me about making one for her recliner and I’m dragging my feet!
73 certainly isn’t as old as it use to be – LOL! I turned 39 this year so it’s drawing nearer all the time!
