I posted this pic in a post last year. And I added it as a last-minute addition to my home feature at It’s Overflowing. Jami from An Oregon Cottage read my Dreamy Dwellings feature at It’s Overflowing, and she noticed that my machine was a Janome. Her husband is on the janome.com web team, and she mentioned me and my Janome to him. And he emailed me and asked me if I’d like to be featured on their website. And I was like – wellletmethinkaboutthat – OF COURSE! 🙂
Yesterday the feature went live and I have to say I am very pleased with the write-up. I love that they included the Bible verse I have as my tag line and inspiration.
If you follow me on facebook you may have seen this news already. If you haven’t head over and read it here.
And I just have to brag a bit on my Janome sewing machine! I love it ‘sew’ much! It cheerfully puts up with almost anything I push through it! And if it doesn’t it’s only because I’m trying to get it to do more than any home sewing machine should even try to do. 12+ thicknesses of drop cloth is a bit much for any non-industrial machine!
A couple of the selling points for me when I upgraded to a bigger machine a few years ago, were the extra-wide arm and the presser foot that would lift extra high and stay there without being held up. I tend to work with extra thicknesses fairly often and need to use both hands to get the fabric positioned properly before setting the presser foot and stitching.
One feature it has that I now could not live without is the walking foot. It is a special foot that pulls the fabric from the top along with the lower feed dogs pulling from beneath. Awesome for sewing knits and laminated fabric.
It’s a big, heavy machine and I have been completely happy with it. I also have a Janome serger and it too has performed very well. The serger has so many miles on it though, that it will be time to make an upgrade in the next couple of years. I keep babying it along and making it work because an upgrade will involve some serious cash. And so far I don’t really need that big a write-off 😉
So that’s the short version of my story of me and my Janome! Make sure to check out Janome.com
Twinsies!!! I have the Janome DC2010 and just love it! My daughter has the Janome that is one step up from that so we are a Janome family. 🙂
Congrats on the feature!
That’s cool to be twinsies with your sewing machines! 🙂
How fun Laura! Love my Janome sewing machine!
So fun to go read the feature about you! Yay!
The walking foot sounds like a very helpful tool. I still like my Janome machines. Mine certainly don’t have the miles yours do. I bet your machine works much better for mending jeans than mine does. Not that I can warrant upgrading just for that. I did get some mending done the other day, but I always feel like it involves a lot of wrestling. Partly because I don’t take the seam apart unless it is crucial.
Emma uses the machine like yours and she is always asking to trade me!! HaHa! Sorry dearie but it doesn’t work that way! In some ways your machine is better for mending jeans – do you take the case thing off the end of the sewing table? It makes the arm really narrow and you can get the pant leg over it sometimes. My big machine isn’t made to take that off so It can be harder for some smaller stuff. Does that even make sense??
Congrats on the feature! My machine is a Janome as well, though fairly basic. It’s had a pretty good run, and after a recent tune up I’m hoping to go at least another year or so before I need to start shopping. Buying a machine is stressful nice when they last you!
Thank you Rachel! Yes, buying a machine can be stressful! I am so thankful for my 6600. I honestly never really wish I had gotten anything bigger. I would like to have an industrial machine that will sew a straight stitch through whatever I want it too for some really big think stuff I want to do but what I want to do is too much for any home sewing machine I think! Now my serger – I need a new one. Badly. In my dreams I’d buy a BabyLock but in reality I would give Janome a look first!
I read the Janome article last night and was pleased, too, that they included the scripture…it is part of what YOU are! Your pix of the two Janome’s look like mine, although I’m sure your regular sewing machine is newer them mine…and the serger, too, looks almost identical. However, your work space looks m.u.c.h. cleaner and neater then mine….even when I am not working, which anymore is most of the time!! just want you to know I enjoy your blog…..
Hi Jane! It’s so nice to know there are people who will use the Bible on a public forum! And just so you know – I cleaned that space up just for those photos – it never looks like that and that time it only lasted long enough to get the photos!! It’s usually piled with fabric, ribbon, patterns, and the occasional stack of school papers that I haven’t taken time to look through!
I just started reading your blog and love it. I started with the Janome DC2010 and love it! I upgraded to the Horizon7700 with the long throat and love it. I use the DC2010 for going to shops and classes. Both are wonderful machines and a great value for the money.
Thanks! I still have my older machine – my daughter has it in her room and I occassionally here it running as she stithces up something for her American Girl dolls! So glad yo are here and took time to comment!
Congrats on being featured! I will keep that brand in mind if I should ever be on the market for a sewing machine. Maybe one day I will convince myself I need one. Then, of course, I’ll need lessons! Ha!
Thanks Kelly! I wish I could give you some sewing lessons! Maybe we could do skype sewing lessons – LOL!
Congratulations my sweet friend. What a lovely place to be featured considering your Janome has been instrumental in creating so many of your lovely works of art. My mom has the Janome embroidery machine.
Thanks Amy! I looked longingly at the machines that could embroider too but knew I would never use it to its full potential at that time and it would be much wiser for me to not spend that much $. Maybe someday!
I wished we lived closer. I would love to learn how to really sew, thanks for the info on the Janome. Maybe someday haha. Also I loved how your Easter banner came out! So sweet.
Leslie (Gwen Moss)
Thanks Leslie – I wish too we lived closer cause I’d love to pass on some of my sewing knowledge! It’s so fun to me and I think everyone should have this much fun! LOL!
What a nice write-up Jill! I’m so happy for you. I’ve never used a Janome. I learned to sew at the age of 9 on my mom’s old Riccar, and then saved my pennies and bought my own machine, a Singer, while in college. Years later, my husband upgraded me to a Bernina, and that’s what I still have today, along with a Bernina serger. Both have served me well, but I’ll definitely keep Janome in mind when the time comes to look for a new machine. Have a great weekend!
Debbie
Thank you Debbie! I know lots of people who own Berninas and love them! It’s a great brand too, but I didn’t have the option of a great shop to have it serviced at so I went with Janome and now I’m hooked!
Let me just say that I am generally not the kind of girl that upgrades things. I replace things when they break or are no longer serving their purpose for me. My husband loves to upgrade his things and my sewing machine is the only thing I consider following in his footsteps with! With all the sewing you do, you absolutely have the right machine!
🙂 Jen if you do decide to upgrade I’d recommend looking at Janome! I have no complaints about this machine!
That’s so cool about your feature!! Congrats! (I don’t sew, but I sure admire those of you who do 🙂
Susan
Thanks Susan! I admire all your cool ‘junk’ – maybe we could trade some junk for some sewing lessons!! LOL!
Congratulations Jill – how thrilling for you –
Like Susan above me I don’t sew – but am SEW impressed by people that do – and you’re gifted with it, completely!
Hugs,
Suzan
Thank you Susan! You are so sweet! I’d teach you to sew if you’d move to my town 🙂
Ugh! Just realized I misspelled your name! So sorry – forgive me?!
You go girl! Can I have your autograph! I am in love with my sewing machine, too….but mine is a Singer. 🙂
Have a blessed and amazing day!
karianne
Ah Kari you are too sweet! My Mom had a Singer till just recently and we both liked it a lot when it was at the top of its game!
That’s awesome, Jill! I just read the feature and it was very nice. Congrats. Very cool. You made me giggle with “wellletmethinkaboutthat”. ha! I have the same serger (purchases second hand from my aunt) and my new machine is a Janome too. It’s my first and I’m so pleased with it so thanks to you and the other girls recommending it on facebook. I’m with Karianne…Can I have your autograph? 😉
🙂 Thanks Jami, it was really cool to get that email asking if I’d like to be featured! Like they need to ASK! And I think you and KariAnne should probably be giving me YOUR autographs – you’ve both accomplished more than me 😉 !! But if we all meet up at a blogger convention maybe we can swap signatures – LOL!
That is amazing. I love how God opens doors for us that we didn’t even know where there. They did a great write-up on you! Congrats!
Angela
Thank you Angela! God is good – He gets all the glory!
What a wonderful feature, Jill! I have a Janome as well and I love it. 🙂 Congrats!
Thank you! It’s been fun seeing who all comments saying they have a Janome too!
