I told you at the beginning of last week that I would show you my new skirt later in the week. Last YEAR I said I would show you the new skirts I had made myself. They never made it to the blog. Call it laziness. Call it forgetfulness. Say I changed my mind. Whatever the reason I kept ‘skirting the issue’ of posting photos to my blog.
last years skirt
In my defense, the sunlight is limited around here in the Winter, making it difficult to get good photos. I shot these on what I thought was a bright, sunny day but till I got all my pieces together, and staged the sun was playing hide-n-seek. So I did the best I could with what I had to work with. I have another skirt from last year – a Boden knock-off that I photographed too but none of those turned out well enough to share. Maybe the sun and my ambition will both appear on the same day soon 🙂
this year’s skirt
This one is a sweater knit – I found when I made a quick trip to JoAnn’s for something else. Always have to make a trip down the aisle of knits – they have had some cute stuff there. I also have fabric I found there recently to make a couple maxi skirts for spring.
I actually have another skirt I made this year that I was going to photograph the day I did these. But for some reason someone hung it in my closet before it went through the wash and it needed to be washed. I’m blaming my teenager 😀
So hopefully I can photograph the two skirts and show them to you soon too. Or maybe I will wait till next year. Really, why get in such a hurry??? 😉
You can see other skirts I’ve made here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Do you ever procrastinate?
I’m too good at procrastinating.
That sweater knit skirt is so pretty. Both outfits are super cute!
Thanks! It’s funny cause I ended up putting a different top and sweater and necklace with that skirt when I actually wore it. I’ll have to retake some 😉
BOTH skirts are really cute. I don’t do well in sweater skirts because they seem to stretch out of shape and the “bubble butt”! Love that one though- xo Diana
Thank you Diana – I didn’t think sweater knit was a good pick for me and my shape but I tried it last year in a dress I made because I loved the fabric so much and I actually really liked it on me! Go figure – you just never know!
I have the same problem with finding sunlight for pictures (winter can be so depressing). Glad you shared these with us – they’re so cute! I’m trying to find the patience (and know-how) to sew myself some curtains. Thanks for all the tutorials!
Thank you Jane! Curtains are really pretty simple – usually! If you have any questions shoot me an email and I’ll see if I can help!
That yellow skirt is awesome! I’ve been waiting a week to take a couple of photos. I’m now desperate for any sort of light.
Thanks Jane! And I hear you – it’s time for sunshine and warmth!
Love, love, love the cute yellow, so bright and fun for spring!
Thanks Pam! It is a fun color – I tend to go for the yellow/greenish color and the raspberry as the pops of color in my wardrobe!
Great work Jill! I was just browsing the Boden web site. 😉 It is one of my favorites. I wish you would have included a close up photo of the stripes. I do love stripes.
I would love to have you sew a new wardrobe for me (just wish it was in the budget).
Thanks Kellie! And I will try to remember to take a close up of those stripes when I retake the other skirt pics!
The poor teenager, being blamed for hanging up your dirty skirt :). At least she hung it up and it wasn’t crumpled under her bed :). I am as always, really impressed that you make such beautiful clothes.
I know that’s terrible isn’t it! I probably did it myself without realizing it – she only hangs things up when forced 😉
Super cute, Jill! Especially love the second one!! And of course, I never procrastinate. I just decide it doesn’t NEED to be done right now! That’s not the same thing, right? ;o)
Have a great day! I am getting over bronchitis…BLEH!
Hugs,
Becky
Becky that is a much better way of wording it 🙂 heehee! Hope you are soon better, bronchitis is no fun. My hubby had that several years ago and was home from work for 2 whole weeks.
I hear you we get maybe 2 hours a day with any sort of decent sunlight! I really like your yellow skirt.
Thank you Rachel, I like that skirt too – I need to make some new ones with that pattern soon. And I am so ready for more sunshine and warmer days!
I have a question for you ……I have some very cute off white knit with a ruffle trim on it but it is a bit thin/sheer. I am wanting to make a dress out of it for my daughter but I am in a big debate on what to line it with. The whole garment will need a lining as it is that sheer. Any suggestions?
I line my knit skirts with a nice jersey knit – just a solid in a weight I like – I buy the knit at Jo-anns. That’s probably what I would try if I were you 🙂 I have a question for you too – are you interested in discussing giving some sewing lessons to young girls? you and me as the teachers??
This is so cute! And no the sun does not cooperate, this I know too well. Later on when it’s sunny, I have lost interest and have moved on to something else. You’re right…why rush these things through. We’ll be happy to see the others any time!
Liz
So true! When it’s sunny I sometimes have to make myself stage a shoot and it doesn’t flow as well when I’m not in the correct mood – LOL!
One more thing – tell us about the the top that is paired with the yellow skirt….did you make it? Love the detail work on it.
No I didn’t make that shirt – it’s a sleeveless top and I bought it at a high end consignment shop in Columbus.
They’re just beautiful Jill! Love both of them, as well as the rest of the clothes you picked out to go with them. Very well put together. I’m sure they look great on you. 🙂
Debbie
Thank you Debbie. I have fun with clothes!
