I have stacks of fabric. Stacks and stacks. And I always seem to be obtaining more before I use up all I have on hand. So the stacks continue to grow. In my defense I do work better when creating if I have plenty of fabric to create with. So I have to get a bit creative with fabric storage. And I do have to go through and get rid of some now and then.
I recently went through my fabric stash and ruthlessly created a discard pile. Then I stuffed the discarded stuff into some plastic bags and stashed it away to await my spring garage sale. I did the same thing with my ribbon stash.
The fabric in the ‘keep’ stacks was organized in a rather quick fashion and some of it found a new home on these shelves in my sewing room. I liked the way these shelves looked with decor on them but I’m fast running out of fabric storage room so the decor had to find another storage spot. Honestly, I’m not sure where all of it ended up – some of it may end up in the discard pile and find itself in the spring garage sale too.
I rather enjoy looking at these stacks of fabric. It makes me want to get busy and create some fun stuff. One of these days I will pull up my ‘Stuff I’d Like To Make’ Pinterest board and peruse it for some fun ideas to create.
My sewing machine and serger go to the shop tomorrow for some R&R – that would be oiling and service in machine talk. Maybe I can get a couple of painting projects done while they are gone! Oh yes, and a little hand-stitched monogramming project I’ve been slowly working on!
Hope your weekend was wonderful and you are headed into a joyful and productive week!
Looking good, Jill! I just did the same thing but hauled it off to Goodwill. We can’t really have a garage sale here. It feels good to get cleaned up, sorted out and organized, doesn’t it? xo Diana
I try to make myself take all garage sale leftovers to goodwill. A friend and I have a big garage sale together every spring and we open it up to other around who have kids clothes and stuff to sell. there are usually over 60 families total who bring stuff. My friend and I take 20% of the sales to compensate for out time and effort of putting it together! It’s a big deal and lots of work but so worth it!
You’ve got so many pretty fabrics to choose from. I like how they look stacked together too. I bet you have some good projects planned for when you get your sewing machine back.
🙂 Thanks Kelly – it is fun to have them where I can see them!
🙂
I’m working on the monogram now Melaine! Well, I’m replying to my blog comments RIGHT now, but the monogram is laying here beside me waiting to be picked up again!
Your shelves look so fun! I can see how that fabric pile inspires you 🙂
Susan
Thank you Susan!
What beautiful stacks of fabric. I spy a Russian nesting doll in one of those stacks. What I wouldn’t give to look through that stack of discarded fabrics 🙂
Thank you Amy! I might just post some pics of what I am ‘discarding’ and see if any of my blog friends are interested!
I would love to see your discards, especially if they are anything like the keepers in color and style. So many colorful and fun patterns. What a fun garage sale that will be for some lucky shoppers!
Liz
I may just have to post some photos of what I’m discarding here and see if anyone wants to pay the shipping to have them 😉
that’s a lot of fabric for sure 🙂 I like the cheerful look of the stash
Thank you Daniela!
I don’t even sew that much anymore, but I still have stacks of fabric. I went up to the attic today to find some fabric. And, I made a pretty stack of it. Now I just need the time to be creative.
Loved looking at your stacks.
Thanks Carol! It’s fun to have fabric around even if you don’t sew much all the time – you just never know when you might want some 🙂
