The only place I have been outside the United States was a weekend trip to Niagara Falls 16 years ago with 5 of my girlfriends. Traveling to places like England, France, Italy, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, or… Africa, seems unattainable to me. Just a dream. Oh, I’d love to travel someday, it just seems like an impossible dream right now.
We have some friends who are African. As in ‘from Africa’ African. A lovely, delightful lady, her husband and their totally adorable baby boy.
I cannot fathom raising children in a country that is not my own, and yet trying to make it mine. Trying to keep the traditions and language and family of the ‘old’ and mix it with the traditions and language and friends of the ‘new’.
Fitting into a new country, a new lifestyle, a new culture, a new family, a new climate, a new way of living. It is impressive really! And that baby boy is gonna grow up bilingual. Impressive I tell you.
It was through one of my best American friends that I met my African friend. My American friend made this ‘Africa’ jacket for our little African baby. The heart represents Nairobi, Kenya, where they lived before moving here. I got the Africa jacket passed to me to do the stitching. The country and the heart were already glued to the jacket so all I had to do was zigzag around Africa and stitch through the heart. And take some pics of it of course 🙂
My friend saw the idea here.
And you can purchase them from this etsy shop if you don’t want to make your own!
Happy Sewing and Happy Valentines Day! You have one day left to do your crafting 😉
Love, love, love. My heart is in Kenya and it is my greatest prayer to go there very soon, God willing! Would love to meet your friends! DB has a mission there, not sure if you knew that? And our little Compassion son is there too! Love the sweatshirt – I might have to do a wall hanging like this!
Jenni, I’m not sure if I did know that DB has a mission there. A wall hanging like this would be so so neat!
It’s just beautiful, Jill. Your stitching is perfect, as always. What a thoughtful gift, sure to be loved for a long time.

Aww, Debbie, thanks!
What a sweet and lovely jacket. I love the heart, representing where they lived before moving here.
Isn’t it cute Amy? I loved it to and was delighted that my friend asked me to help her with it!
This is an adorable idea. I love it when a gift is given that’s so personal. Happy Valentine’s Day to you…I hope you have a lovely day. 🙂
Thanks Ann! I loved it to and was happy to get to help with it!
What a sweet idea, I think anyone would treasure such a thoughtful gift!
I thought it was a sweet idea too! I was glad to get to help out with it!
That is darling! The baby that I think it is for will be so, so adorable in it! He’s about the cutest thing.
Love the idea!
He is the cutest thing ever! I haven’t seen him for awhile – need to remedy that!
Thanks again, Jill- add it to my tab!
HA! 🙂
