I took a look through my folder I keep my photos in till I have blogged them and found a few things I never got around to sharing with you last year. Just some random bits and pieces. Somehow with all the fun Christmas blog posts going on these things just never made the grade as being newsworthy enough. So today I’m dusting the photos off and sharing them with you.
My printed ribbon I had used for tags in my handmade items was running dangerously close to empty so I ordered some new ones back in October I think it was. These are individual tags, all ready to be stitched to whatever I want to mark with ‘Sew a Fine Seam’
I bought them from Fancy Weaver on etsy. Lindsay from The Cottage Home blogged about getting her labels from them so went with them too. It’s always nice to have a place recommended 🙂 I like them a lot. Same font as my blog header and printed grey on white. Does the job and looks nice.
If you remember I posted all about my delight over having a furnace installed. You can find that post here.
Before we could set the furnace we had to pour a new concrete floor. And before we could pour the floor we had to tear out the stairs that went up into the house. Instead of putting the old steps back we made these instead. ( you know I’m using the word ‘we’ loosely here – by ‘we’ I really mean ‘Travis made them and I watched and took pics’. That’s about all I had to do with pouring the concrete and tearing out the old stairs too.)
The company Travis works for has some metal offset steps so he is used to using them. He noticed one day at Lowe’s that you can buy metal offset stairs. They were pricey. But it got him thinking. And doing some research. If you know Travis in real life you know that he is always researching something! And he researches very, very thoroughly.
He decided these would work just famously in our basement. You can make the steps at a steeper angle than regular stairs, and space is always at a premium around here. He bought some wood, made a pattern, and put together these really great stairs. And they work great! Easy to use and much nicer looking than the old crooked set ‘we’ tore out.
Right after Thanksgiving I took my handmade things to a Craft Market. And I wanted a sign. I had these great, vintage letters I found at an antique shop, and wanted a wood sign made to hold them. So hubby whipped out this one for me.
He even added a hook so I could hang something fun and festive on it.
I made a scissors stencil and painted the scissors on, and added a metal piece to detail it. I also wanted my Bible verse on it. So I printed it out in the same font as my blog header and positioned it where I wanted it, taping it down.
Using the cap of a pen, I traced the words, pressing hard to get them to imprint into the wood. Since it was pine it wasn’t too difficult.
I tried to edit this photo so you could see the imprint it left in the wood.
And then I simply went over the indention I’d made with a black sharpie.
My girls recently stole borrowed my camera to take some pics of their Lego creations. Pretty creative and fun if you ask me!
Can you tell which team we are fans of?
Cheerleaders – RAHRAHRAH!
Becca, my 7-year-old got a set of Nanoblock Mini Legos for Christmas. The set she got was a snowman. The Nanoblocks are called mini because the blocks are super tiny. So cute. There are all kinds of fun sets you can get. I love the grand piano, and the drum set. You can get castles, Big Ben, Statue of Liberty, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. And many more.
Becca decided last week to take her snowman apart and make some other things with the tiny blocks. The first pic was the little doggy she made first. Then she made this little house. She wanted me to take pictures and then she informed her sisters that ‘Mommy took pictures and my dog and house will be on her blog.’ Guess she must have picked up on the fact that my camera gets used for my blog the most huh?!
This is her most recent dog. She also made a kitty but I missed getting pics of that one. She always brings them to me at nighttime too – so my photos are shot quickly on the automatic setting with the flash. Great huh? But hey, she was excited about being on my Mommy’s blog. Don’t tell her it’s not really an important blog or anything 😉
I’m off to dreamland – I hope. I was up all night last night with a sick girl so I’m hoping for some sleep tonight. And lest you think that I didn’t sleep at all you should know that I did finally fall asleep between the 3:30 and 4:30 and again after I was up at 4:30 till 5:30. And after 6 the sick girl and I slept till 10:15. And she hasn’t gotten sick since. She was grumpy and tired all day but on the mend. Praying no one else here gets it.

I am really in love with your offset ladder. What a wonderful idea!!! The leggos are too cute as well. I love the football theme!!! Wonder what they will do for the Super Bowl!! Have a great week 🙂
Thanks Diane – the offset stairs is something I would totally do in the main level of my house if it worked with the layout! They are pretty cool.
Jill – I think those stairs are beautiful – but i’m pretty sure I would break my neck. Immediately.
I love your tags and your sign and your Legos, too!
-b.
LOL! No you wouldn’t Breida – seriously! I thought the same thing but they are totally easy to use and there is something to hang onto on each side!
I love your labels! I bet it’s nice to see your “name in lights!” Have a great week.
Leslie
🙂 Thanks Leslie – I really like these tags!
I beg to differ…a very important blog, indeed. And please tell Becca that I’m very impressed with her lego creations. Very creative like her mother. You and your husband make a great team. What a ladder and what a sign! So glad you shared all the stuff that got overlooked at Christmas time.
Liz
Thanks Liz, and I will be sure to tell Becca! It’s so fun to see her realize she can build stuff on her own instead of letting her sisters convince her to let them do it for her!
I LOVE your sign Jill – it’s fantastic – and seeing all those legos just melted my heart – my son was addicted to them many many years ago!
I didn’t even know they had football legos lol too cute how your daughter staged them!
What a fun post – a little bit of everything!
Hugs,
Suzan
Thanks Suzan – isn’t the sign so fun! My hubby is the best! I love what my kids do with legos too – just not the stepping on them part when they leave them all over the floor!
WOW. That’s quite an impressive list of bits and pieces :). That ladder is amazing.
Thanks Amy! I’m quite proud of my hubby’s steps! I’d like to have included a pic of them in place in the basement but it’s a bit hard to get pics there – maybe this spring…
I love these kind of random posts. Thanks so much for the link to the labels. I just wrote someone the other day and asked where they got their labels and they couldn’t remember because they bought so many and it was years ago. I am tickled to have this name- Thanks-xo Diana
Glad it helped you Diana! they were great to work with and I got my labels faster than the time frame they listed!
What fun details to see! And I love Miss Becca’s confidence that her dog and house would by all means be featured on your blog. SHE is the star on my blog today!
Love the steps. The past year has had me realizing over and over again how nice it is to have something that works well. And had me breathing many prayers of thanksgiving.
Your sign is awesome! You really are so blessed with a knack for creating. Hooray!
🙂 But of course her stuff should show up on Mom’s blog – LOL! Loved your blog post too!
The ladder is a wonderful idea. Never saw one like it. Love the sign, beautiful. Of course, my heart was touched by Mom taking pictures of the Legos. My youngest grandson is a “Leogmaniac” and I show him every blog picture. How sweet of the little one to be so impressed by Mommies blog. Yes, your blog is very important. I am so blessed to have found such a sweet soul as yours. Thank you for your postings.
Thank you Regena! I’ve been blessed by your sweet comments – I’m always excited when I see one from you. And you are right, to my girls this is a VERY important blog 🙂 I’m so glad they like to have their stuff and their pics on here occasionally. I have heard of kids that want nothing to do with their Mom’s blog so I feel very blessed that they think it is cool. Have a wonderful weekend – God bless.
