Besides all the cleaning I did last week I also finished up some projects. One was this grey ruffled dress. {the fabric comes this way – don’t think for a minute that I sewed all those layers together ;)}
I’ve had this fabric for a while – to make a dress for a friend. A dress like the one I made for myself in the spring. I finally got at it and got it made so she can wear it this fall – did you wear it this weekend Janice??
I don’t know what accessories she will wear with it but I added my black belt, raspberry ruffled sweater, and a cream, fabric flower necklace for the photo shoot. This grey fabric is so fun to dress up with whatever colors and accessories you want!
The outfit posed quite willingly and calmly in my living room. So nice when outfits behave like that.
I have another busy week ahead – doesn’t look like things will be slowing down anytime soon. But that’s really a good thing. I need to stay busy and keep my mind off the cold weather that won’t be going away to stay anytime soon.
I have leggings to make, a couple more dresses that need made, an event to prepare for (more on that soon), school to oversee, a guest post to write, a tutorial to figure out, and … oh yes! Pictures to edit!! Oh. My. I took a little over 1800 pics at the wedding Saturday. I’ve gone through them once today, deleting all with closed eyes, etc. Now the nitty-gritty editing needs to commence. In my spare time 😉
What do you have on your calendar this week?
Sew a Fine Seam
Linking up!
Oh my gosh, I want that dress! Perfect color, perfect length…love the ruffles. Glad you cleared that up that the fabric came that way. It was looking WAY labor intensive :).
Bobi

🙂 Bobi you can find the fabric at http://www.rufflefabric.com Thanks for your sweet comment!
It’s beautiful, Jill! You are so talented!
Leslie
Awww, Leslie you are so sweet! Thanks so much for you sweet comments over here – makes my day!
Gorgeous, as I’m sure Janice will be in it…love the raspberry with it!
Thanks Jenni – She does look nice in it – I can’t wait to see what sweater she puts with it and the belt too.
Really? There is a ruffle fabric . com? How funny! I am head over heels for that FABRIC though!! It would make SUCH a great skirt (with a pair of black boots??) YUM! I also like your belt quite a bit. 🙂
breida
Absolutely Breida! The fabric isn’t exactly CHEAP but I love it. And it is much nicer stuff than some of the same looking stuff that I’ve bought elsewhere for cheaper. With this fabric you get what you pay for. I have a skirt out of this fabric and skirts out of some of their other fabrics – It’s great. and easy to make – I just make an elastic waist. i use a stretchy inexpensive knit and line them too so i don’t have to worry about wearing a slip. i can give you details for making them if you want – or i can always make them for you 🙂
Great job Jill …once again! Beautiful! Now I might have to get me some rather than be envious of Janice….can’t have that…haha=). Blessings on your week!
🙂 Just say the word Angie and I’ll order fabric for you and make you a dress! I can give you a quote first if you need pricing!
I love the fit and flair skirt. Perfect for a pear shaped gal like myself. 🙂
Thank you Laura – and you certainly don’t look pear shaped my dear! you always look very lovely when you put pics of yourself on your blog! If you are pear shaped then pear shaped is a very good thing!
Love the outfit! Raspberry cardigan really brightens up the dress! Can’t wait to see your photographs!
Thank you Yelle – 🙂 I can’t wait to see what my friend puts with this dress!
That dress is gorgeous!! And of course, I love your vignette beside it 🙂
Susan
Thanks Susan! Someday we must meet – anyone who loves all the same things I love is someone I must meet in real life!
I LOVE that. It’s so pretty and just plaid wearable! I’m so impressed with your skill.
Thanks Miranda, you are so sweet!
What a pretty dress, Jill! I love that fabric. I don’t think I could sew a dress….even if I tried 🙂 I’ll just stick to curtains!
blessings,
karianne
🙂 Dresses aren’t as hard as they seem Karianne! If we lived close I could give you a couple lessons and you’d be whipping them out in no time!!
Nice work as always! Love the raspberry with it. I hope you are happy with your photos. Will you be able to share any with us? I would love to see!
Liz
Thanks Liz! And yes, I will be sharing some of the photos here. I really need to get at that editing!! I sewed today instead – and worked on a tutorial for a guest post. I’m beat!!
I love the dress and that sweater goes great with it. Love all the ruffles! I’m sure you whipped it out in no time.
Looking forward to seeing your pics of the wedding.
🙂 Thanks 🙂 And yes, I did whip this up pretty quick – the pattern was already made and there was no collar and no sleeves. 4 skirt seams, side seams and a center backs seam on the bodice and shoulder seams. Lined it to finish the neck and to eliminate the need for a slip! Easy peasy!
The gray ruffled dress is lovely…and the perfect model. I am sure the dress will look even lovelier on the person you made it for (compared to your dress form). I can’t believe you took over 1800 wedding pictures. I am sure you got some unbelievable pictures.
Thanks Amy! AS far as the pics, I take a lot of one pose – that’s the beauty of digital! I haven’t checked to see how many I have after deleting all the pics with closed eyes, ets. I really need to get at some editing today. I think I’ll take my computer to piano and while my girls are playing I’ll edit!
Amy, I’m the lucky recipient and I was just thinking how much better this looks on the dress form than it looks on me, lol!! 🙂
Very funny Janice – that dress looks awesome on you!
Ha, I did think you sewed all the ruffles! It’s beautiful and that pop of pink looks awfully fun with all the white in your living room! Can’t wait for wedding photos!
No, I don’t have the patience for that many ruffles! Rufflefabric.com is my best ruffle friend!!
I haven’t found a belt and sweater yet! Thinking maybe I just need to buy yours, it looks so cute with it 🙂
🙂 You can borrow them but I’m not ready to sell them yet 🙂 LOL!
That ruffle dress is amazing. Bet your friend is loving it.
Thank you Penelope!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress Jill!!! It’s absolutely STUNNING!
