Saturday was a busy day here at the Flory residence. I was up early – almost unheard of for me lately, especially on a Saturday. Now, to some of you my up-at-seven-am-on-a-Saturday might not sound early. But I assure that for me it IS early. Anyway, instead of feeling behind all day I was actually ahead most of the day 😉 At almost 11 I thought it was almost noon. At 2 I though sure it was 3. I got a lot accomplished. I cleaned the shelf in my living room and completely redecorated it. I raided my neighbors stick pile again. I sewed up some new camera straps to add to etsy. I finally painted the pole and base to my dress form. I cleaned. I did laundry – a LOT of laundry. I fixed breakfast {sausage gravy and biscuits}, I fixed lunch {leftovers}, I turned a blind eye to my once-again messy sewing/craft/school room.
I almost got completely derailed from my great streak of getting stuff done when the mail arrived. Arrived in the form of a box I had checked for each day all week. I was like a kid on Christmas morning I was so excited! I was jumping up and down saying ‘It’s here, It’s here!!”
Would you like to see what was in that box? I’m sure from the title of this post you already know but I’ll let the pics show you 🙂
I cannot WAIT to try this awesome color – what’s not to love with a name like ‘Grain Sack’?!!
The packaging alone is reason enough to buy this stuff – how CUTE is that?? I just love it.
Got to have all the stuff that goes along with the paint…
I have never used hemp oil but I’m excited about trying it.
I seriously considered dropping everything I was in the middle of and going at it with this paint. But then I remembered that I don’t like getting up on Sunday morning to a messy house {not that I never do} and I had things pretty torn apart and still needed to get it all back together. And I really needed to watch all of Miss Mustard Seed’s videos about the stuff first. I’ve watched at least one but I need to make sure I’m as informed as possible before I start. And I don’t have a blender to use to mix the paint. And while you CAN mix it up with a spoon I really think a blender would be the best way to go – MMS says it makes is smoother. So I need blender just for paint – she stresses that it be a ‘paint only’ blender.
So I talked myself out of it, took a ton of pictures of it, and stacked it neatly on a table in my dining room nook where I can look at it longingly. Then I proceeded to finish up my living room and some other things I had going. I will get to the paint soon – I am just so happy knowing it is here where I can use it when I decide to. And I will share pics of the fall decor in my living room this week. It involves more of those sticks from the neighbors pile and the goodwill picture I talked about here.
What did you do this weekend?
So fun to get real mail with such a great treat inside. The packaging is very cool and I look forward to you testing it out for us and giving us the inside scoop!
Liz
Thanks Liz – I can’t wait to share my experience with all of you!
I agree – the packaging alone is so adorable!
🙂 So fun to get products that are packaged up so cute and fun!
Hooray! I love the packaging. So, so cute! And the names of the colors are so cute too. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Getting up early is so worth it, but I just don’t always make it happen………
🙂 MMS is my hero I’d have to admit! And yes, getting up early is so worth it – but I don’t do it near often enough.
Yay! for a productive Saturday. I thought about you a lot this weekend as I was “spray painting”… After all this milk and chalk paint talk, I realize this is probably not the “in” finish, but I am cool with that because I LOVE to spray paint, and right now time is of essence. So quick. For those of you that are tripping over yourselves to know what I use: Rustoleum, white semi-gloss 2x coverage, found in the paint section at your local Menard’s. Ha. 😉 Now all we need is chalk paint in spray paint form… wouldn’t that be lovely?
Goober! U r funny! Now let’s see pics of your projects! I would love to see what u painted.
🙂 It’s coming, I promise! Only so many hours in the day and let me tell you I’ve been making each one count the past 3 days!
🙂 Spray paint is a great thing too – I have 8 spray painted folding chairs – very fast to do! Some people do put chalk paint in a sprayer – I think you may have to thin it down a little first. There is a spray paint craft party going on this month among bloggers – you should enter! Go over to Thistlewood Farms and check it out – her button is in my sidebar.
so fun! I am still anxiously awaiting the arrival of her paints to our shop! Have fun with your project!
🙂 Oh I can just imagine your excitement when it arrives! Enjoy !
How fun!! But do explain… What is milk paint (and chalk paint for that matter) vs regular?
🙂 Milk paint comes in a powder and you mix up just what you need. It has a wonderful deep color saturation and mimics the look and feel of the old milk paint. it is super hard and very durable. It also will flake and chip after applying it – giving your piece the time-worn look of old chippy paint. you use a scraper to get all the loose paint off after it dries overnight. Then you seal it with hemp oil or wax. Or if you don’t want the chippy look you can use a bonding agent that will make the paint stick without chipping. It is also all natural and doesn’t have harmful or smelly fumes.
Chalk Paint can be used on any surface – no prep work needed!! YAY! It is awesome to work with, all natural – no odor – no harmful stuff! It can be sanded to a satiny smooth finish and sealed with wax. or you can put a varnish finish if you want – I LOVE a wax finish. The chalk paint can be thinned with water to create a wash, which is what I did on my Mom’s brick fireplace. One quart goes a long way. It also dries fast so you can move on to the sanding or second coat very quickly. The fact that I can paint inside without worrying about harmful fumes is just wonderful to me. I really can’t explain just how much I love this stuff. We don’t like latex paint for furniture – it is plastic! Sanding it is a pain – not so with chalk paint. You really have to use the stuff for yourself to get the true depth of how great it is. The colors are great too and can be mixed to further customize to your preference! Any more questions just ask!
Jill! You just made me giggle with your description of your day on Saturday and then giggle more with the excitement you expressed with your Miss Mustard Seed package. That packaging is pure perfection, I totally agree, that would be reason enough to buy it. I can’t wait to see what you create and I already know it will be inspiring and beautiful to look at.
Giggling is always a good thing! Glad I made you giggle 😉 I’ve been working like mad all day and will tomorrow too – trying to catch up some stuff so I can get at that Milk Paint!!
So you can look at it longingly 🙂 I do a lot of that too.
Oh and btw, I have some more used burlap! I still need some, but if you want
some, I’m sure I could share… Or trade for your paint, that would work too. 😛
🙂 Sorry girly – you gotta buy your own paint! I have a little burlap around here somewhere and I can get it at lowes cheap so go ahead and use it. Not sure when I’ll get to Troy anyway.
I love starting out ahead of the game on Monday! It’s so worth getting up early and knocking out a few chores, but dang it’s hard when it’s dark out and chilly! Looking forward to more of your fall decor!
🙂 I got up early today too! And I got so much done. I’m beat now though and I still have a blog post I need to write. It just might have to wait till morning!
Have fun once you get educated with those videos! You had some great determination and discipline- I probably would have stopped right then and there to sit down to watch them and then get started with my painting! LOL
🙂 Sue, I was SO tempted – I almost did. But I looked at the mess I had managed to create while cleaning and decorating my living room and decided I’d have a lot more fun painting when I had it cleaned up!
Ohh, how fun!! I’m dying to try it. A special blender?! I didn’t know that. Darn it. I’d have to get one. I can’t wait to hear your review on it.
Kristy, it doesn’t have to be a special blender just not the same blender you use for food 😉 MMS used a handheld one from Target and I was thinking of getting one to have to use for my milk paint. You can just stir it up in a bowl with a spoon but it’s harder to get it smooth.
