The past couple of days I’ve been gone all day running a rather large rummage sale – or as we call it The Fall Children’s Clothing Sale. We had right at 50 people bring stuff this time – kids clothes(mainly brand name), toys, books, all kinds of baby items and we also have added household items. A friend and I organise and run the show – this past spring was the 7th year for it! We do this Spring and Fall – well, fall most of the time. We didn’t add the fall sale till a couple of years into it and we skipped it a couple of years ago. Fall isn’t ever as high in sales and last year was hardly worth our time. It takes a lot of time – set-up on Monday night. I usually spend a good bit of time there on Tuesday evening as some people drop their stuff off on Tuesday. Then we opened up on Wednesday for the rest of the people to bring their stuff and also for them to shop. Then on Thursday we were advertised to the public with signs out – the whole she-bang!
I actually thought to take my camera and snap a few pics of the barn as it was filling up on Tuesday night.
We hang everything that can possibly hung. So much easier to look at this way and I know it helps sell more!
This wasn’t even all of it – just what was dropped off on Tuesday. The tubs are what we store the hangers in – in the spring they are usually completely emptied out. And there are more tubs than this too!
Lots of blankets, toys and all sorts of baby/kid paraphenalia!
The tables went outside Wednesday morning to hold the household items.
One of my friends getting her stuff hung on the rods!
So that’s what has occupied my time this week! Next week my friend and I will sort it all out and get everyone the money they made. Yes, we make some money for all our work. We take 20% commission. It is a system that has worked very well for us. Everyone sells more by putting it all together in one spot.
I have several pairs of Ruffled Leggings to get made – if you want to see the fabric I have available see this post.
I also have a project in the works that needs to be shipped out and in hand by the 20th. I think I’m pushing it on this one. Must finish tomorrow and get it shipped. Think I can make it to the post office before they close tomorrow or am I gonna have to ship on Monday?
My camera and I need to become much more closely acquainted in the next couple of weeks. I get to be back-up photographer for a cousins wedding! EEEEEKKK. Did I really offer to do this? I have a wonderful friend who does the best photography – you can see her blog and wonderful photos here. Her father-in-law is a photographer from way back and knows more than I could possibly hope to absorb. He also attends the same church fellowship we do, so I know him rather well. My friend suggested I call him up and I am so glad I did. He has the same camera I do!!! Hallelujah! I went over tonight to borrow his flash (which, by the way, is a totally awesome flash) and to get some pointers. He explained so much to me in about an hours time. I cannot wait to start practicing. With just a few weeks I better get cracking! Tomorrow I plan to knock out some sewing projects and then next week I can focus on my camera. And finishing up the rummage sale.
Oh yes, and next weekend I am attending the True Woman conference in Indianapolis. I think it’s in Indy. All I know for sure is I signed up last spring with a group from church, we are meeting on Thursday afternoon to leave, I’m rooming with 2 great gals I like bunches and bunches, and I’m looking forward to it very much. Other than that I’ve left all the details go to the last minute and in the capable hands of a dear lady at church! So thankful for all the great friends and family, and church family in my life!
Something else I’ve got to work in there somewhere is a shopping trip. I need some new jammies – mine are all at least 5 years old 🙁 and a new sweater or two for fall would really help my very worn looking wardrobe!! Although if the weather stays as cool as today I will be able to pull out my winter sweaters and my wardrobe will look much nicer. Maybe. Seems like clothes never look as nice in the fall as they did when you put them away in the spring. WHAT is up with that?????
And now you know why I added the ‘Ramblings’ to the title of this post! Hope you all have a great weekend ahead of you!
Great post and you are a busy lady. That is a great job with the big rummage sale. They do take a lot of work. I worked for years for one for a service organization…all volunteer though but I got some wonderful high-end buys cheap!
Have fun at your conference…try to relax and not worry about pictures or leggings or anything else- xo Diana
Thank you Diana! We have the sale pretty much down to a science now so it flows pretty smoothly most of the time! It takes time though and yes it is still work no matter how well oiled the process 🙂 I will forget about all my projects next weekend – I promise!
WHEW! Ok, you have me thinking I should be able to manage a one day garage sale in my driveway that I was thinking of blowing off! 🙂 You know I always love your photos, can’t imagine them being better!
🙂 Garage sales are a lot of work Pam! If we didn’t usually do so well it wouldn’t be worth it. but we have a system pretty well figured out by now and it works! I get rid of tons of my own stuff plus make a little extra cash by doing it for everyone else! And thank you SO much for your sweet comment about my photos! I love doing it and I really want to learn more about how to get the most out of my camera!
Glad the sale went well and that you’re done for another year!
Thanks Deborah! It’s always nice to have it over even if it is rather fun to do!
The sale looks so incredible.
Would you mind sharing any more details (or drop me an e-mail)? I would love to hear about pricing, keeping track of individual sales, etc. 😉
Also, where can you find nice jammies these days?
Sure Kellie, I will email you some details!
I spy several things at your big sale I would have snapped up for Grace :). I am sure you took some lovely pictures, as backup photographer at your cousin’s wedding. And, a girl definitely must have some adorable comfy pjs, happy shopping 🙂
Amy, you would LOVE this sale, I just know it! You would be one of our favorite customers too I’m sure!
That looks like quite a sale! Have a great time at your conference! 🙂
Susan
Thanks Susan I’m sure the conference will be great! You have a great week!
