In this post I talked about going to the Gathering at the Garst, a reenactment event that was staged in the town I grew up near. There were quit a number of vendors set up selling their wares and we had a grand time browsing. My girls had all taken their own money along and were determined to spend it, but, mean Mom that I am, I convinced them to save their money instead of spending it just to be spending it. I do have one vendor in particular that I wanted to highlight. She happens to be the wife of one of my old bosses.
Meet Loretta Wray and her fun pottery!
She is lots of fun – she and her husband were more like friends to me than my boss and his wife! It was really fun to see her again. Seeing her name on the list of vendors was one thing that motivated me to get out of bed early on a Saturday and get all 3 girls ready for an outing 🙂
She makes some fun pottery. The pot to the left of this photo was labeled a ‘houseplant for brown thumbs’. I thought it was rather clever! I tend to be a brown thumb when it comes to house plants.
How cute is this cheese and cracker tray?! I like how you can put the flowers in the flower frog and I also thought the flower frog would be a cute place to put a tag telling your guests what kind of cheese you are serving.
I liked this display with the sticks and rocks too. This could be worked into any decor scheme I think 🙂
You can visit her etsy shop and her blog. Tell her I sent you!
Jill,
Aren’t you kind?!! Thanks for the great pictures and post!! I always did (and DO!) think of us as friends!! Your daughters are beautiful, I enjoyed meeting them but wish I could have talked to them more! I wanna hear about this “mean mom” that they have!! =D
I like your idea for sticking a cheese tag in the flower frog! I will have to remember that!
I didn’t realize (or more likely I forgot!) that you have an etsy shop too! I LOVE those linen lounge pants!!
Thanks again for mentioning me and my pottery in your blog! I hope our paths cross again soon!!
Yes, Loretta, I would love to have more time to talk! not sure i want you talking to my girls though – LOL!! i’d love to see steve again too – if you guys ever have the time when you are out here please let me know and stop by!!
Love that cheese tray and also those pocket flower pots hanging up in the back!
Fun Stuff huh Jenni!?!
BTW, I’m a “mean mom” too, we have a rule that you have to wait 3 days to buy anything over $1 (an no, you can’t spend it a dollar at a time just to get around the 3-day rule). Usually by the time 3 days passes the interest has waned or the item has been completely forgotten. If they wanted to buy something at an event, like you went to, I’d take the person’s card and order it and I’d chip in for shipping. Mr. Steady and I have the same rule (although a higher dollar amount) so they see it modeled as well. We have just made too many bad money mistakes by not praying, sleeping on it, and thinking about it.
Good idea Jenni – I know I’ve made way too many bad decisions because of impulse buying! Trying to change that!
What lovely pottery! I have a bowl I bought at a fair like that in Tennessee right after my hubby and I got married. I only use it for one thing, guacamole. We eat guacamole a lot! We actually call it the guacamole bowly and it makes me smile every time I use it. I adore had made pottery pieces.
How fun Jen! I like serving pieces with a history like that!
That cheese tray is AMAZING. I love that she add the flower frog to it. What a clever idea. Truly beautiful pottery. Thanks for sharing and introducing us to Loretta.
Isn’t that cheese tray fun?! I’m kinda wishing I would have forgotten I was on a ‘do not buy anything’ budget right now!!
holy moly. this is amazing. i love it all. going to check the shop out now! seriously great work. love it.
it is cool stuff Ali! glad you are checking out her shop – make sure you add it to your favs!
Beautiful work! I love the cheese tray too. So unique! How fun to meet up!
It was fun! We really need to get together with them for an evening sometime – and that might not even be enough time to catch up!
