Thank you so much to all of you who prayed for my daughter, and left comments letting me know you were thinking of us. It is such a blessing to have the support of friends! I’d mentioned here on the blog and on fb that my two younger girls went to Kansas with their grandparents. The last weekend there were there my youngest got sick. It started on Friday in the wee hours of the morning. 900 miles away from mama. She would facetime me on her iPod and it was really hard on this Mom to not just hop in the car and head west to get her. But 900 miles is a long trip and surely it would be a 24 hour thing, right? Wrong. She was still sick when they headed for home on Monday morning. They arrived home on Tuesday and I picked my girls up a bit before 5:00 at my Mom’s. I tried to call my Dr. then but they had already left the office. I was most concerned that she could be dehydrated and in need of some help getting her fluid levels back up. I considered taking her to our After-Hours Clinic but my husband didn’t think she needed to go. After she threw up yet once again Tuesday night I decided we were going to call our Family Dr. first thing Wednesday morning. They got us in at 1:00 and it was a relief to know that she was under-hydrated but not dehydrated. She has viral gastroenteritis (stomach flu) and Doc was pretty sure from her symptoms and the noises he could hear in her tummy that it wasn’t bacterial – that would have put us at Children’s Hospital. He prescribed fluids, jello made with part gatorade, ripe bananas (the stomach tolerates ripe ones well), probiotics (kefir was the first thing he suggeted), vitamin c, and rest. I love our family Dr. He also asked me to call in on Monday to let him know who she was doing and make sure she was truly on the mend.
My girl ate a bit of supper last night, went to bed around 10:00 and slept till 9:30am when I woke her up to see how she was doing. She ate 1/2 a piece of toast this morning and is sitting on the couch playing with Legos now. I think she’s on the mend. Praise God!
